Opera Mobile 11.5.2

Hi,

We have released an update to Opera Mobile 11.5 for Android.

This update contains one major change in Opera's behavior.
Previously Opera would block pages from redirecting to themselves. This was done to ensure that self-refreshing pages would not incur cost to users. Unfortunately this was causing site compatibility issues so we decided to change it.
You can bring the old behavior back if you want by going to opera:config and enabling "Disable Client Refresh To Same Location".

This update also contains fixes for most commonly reported problems:
  • Fixed problems with settings menu closing without user interaction
  • Fixed long startup time on some devices (e.g. Samsung Galaxy S)
  • Fixed problems with HTML5 audio
  • Fixed problems with big Link accounts freezing Opera
  • Fixed problem that prevented users from changing already stored credentials
  • Fixed problems with cache being deleted at startup
  • Fixed problems with no feedback given to the user when shortcut couldn't be added to home screen
  • Fixed problems with star indication of bookmarked pages after device restart
  • Fixed problems with download view not updated properly in some cases
  • Crash and stability fixes

Update is available now in Android Market and will be available on our servers later today. All users are recommended to update.

Big thanks to all of you for your constant support.

You are the ones that keep us going so please continue to give us feedback on the forum.
Also please report issues using 'Report a problem' tool in Help (add as many details as possible no matter how irrelevant you think they might be. Especially: ROM you have, any modifications you did to the system, etc.)

HTC Desire HD, Android 2.3.3, no root, no custom ROM; Opera Mobile through Android Market, installed the usual way over previous version.

    - the going to black screen is back
    - Opera freezes and crashes a lot, needing to force close via Android Settings->Applications

    Essentially unusable on my device.

Can you report this using https://bugs.opera.com/wizard/mobile and give us your contact data there? Please also give us as much details as possible (e.g. settings you changed, if you use link and how big is your link account if you do).
We have a bunch of Desire HD phones and have not seen such issues so we need as much details as possible to reproduce this.

More details please - preferably trough our https://bugs.opera.com/wizard/mobile so we could contact you back asking for even more details if we have trouble reproducing.

Working fine on my HTC Desire S (Gingerbread 2.3.3) seems to boot up faster too. Updated from the Market over previous version, and absolutely no problems.

It would be perfect if it has Android User-Agent option. Is that possible? I changed settings in Custom User-Agent, some sites looks good ,but google.

    [edit]
    I found 11.50 update 1 (= 11.5.1) here: http://www.apktop.com/tag/opera-mobile-web-browser-apk
Can someone check if MD5 checksum 1f5f2734ec2f049c4cc2b3576dc2ab28 is correct?

Version 11.5 doesn't load pages (especially sites with many images) completely.

    I'm back to 11.1

Frequent lockups on HTC desire hd froyo stock ROM. If i choose "wait" rather than "force close" it eventually loads the page. i have to do that every so often though.
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but same issues.

Went back to 11.5.1 until they fix this problem.

I send a lot of report

To all people experiencing freezes on the newest update.

First, thanks for lots of reports via Bug Wizard and your continuous support.
We are now working on having the problem fixed.

Base on your reports, we have confirmed it is related to Opera Link synchronization handling.
As the temporary solution you can try to disable Opera Link in Settings.

Even disabling link doesn't help, so that's why we need a fix (not a patch) asap. Not able to use Opera mini or Mobile presently

So how about a hotfix setting everything back to the way it was in 11.5.1??

Essentially Opera 11.5.2 is not usable for a lot of people right now! I went back to 11.5.1 and posted in this forum. I guess most people will just search for another browser. How do you expect to gain any market share?
With the black-screen-at-startup-bug just a few weeks ago it's the same thing: Annoying as hell and I personally know a person that switched in the month that bug existed. And I too used another browser concurrent to opera.

Maybe get some beta testers and/or different devices to test your software before release.

software has bugs all the time nothing is perfect, look at how many fixes firefox undergoes if you really look at it Opera has the least amount of bug's to fix and patch yes its annoying when it happens but you get over it and forget about it when its all fixed.

1.) Bugs: sure, lots of them.
2.) Bugs that cause a piece of software to be unusable: not that often!

And this stuck-after-a-few-seconds bug and the black-screen-at-startup bug are clearly category 2 for most users*!

    (*that are affected by it)

As Opera Software employees mentioned in this thread they did not experience the cat 2 problems as you and I did. With the help of some of us - I am sure I am not the only one providing a bookmark list so they can check what the underlying problem is - the seem to have fixed it with yesterday's update*. Considering how long I have been [and still are] waiting for other developers to fix rather serious bugs in their progs [yes, Android] I think this was very fast.

From now on the developers should have an idea what to look for in future versions to forego the black screen/freeze/crash problems connected to Opera Link; at least they now have bookmark files to test with ...

*Haven't had time for extensive testing but the new version already does better than the previous - it runs.
