Laggy/slow/"heavy" smooth scrolling [Opera 11.60/12.00][Ubuntu 11.04 - Classic GNOME 2]
I've tried these very latest releases on a following setup:- Pentium IV 3,06 GHz with HT;
- 1,5GB of RAM;
- 7300GT (drivers 285.05.09 - the latest stable);
The issue is especially visible when scrolling with a mouse wheel (both on websites and SpeedDial) and/or in the 12.00, where it seems to be stronger then in 11.60 (it might be reproduced for example with this website: http://pclab.pl).
It is a clear regression from 11.52, where works flawlessly, and so for now I'm getting back to this version, since I really like the smooth scrolling.

Since he says it also exists in Opera 11.60, it means both the Software renderer and Hardware accelerated renderer (because all software rendering bugs definitely exist in the hadware renderer).
Slow scrolling/un-smooth scrolling has been reported by many many people, so not an uncommon thing.
If you need any help from me with regards to Opera, please make a comment on any of my blog posts.

It's just that i thought that he may have had hardware acceleration enabled, Which was
making the scrolling even worse, Thus he went back to the stable 11.52 build.
But I'm using windows 7.
Seems to me hardware "acceleration" has made things slower? This shouldn't be possible!
How do I turn off hardware acceleration anyway? It's not in the preferences, and there is no option in opera@:gpu

Greetings ,
There is one of two ways you should turn off Hardware Acceleration. The first and easiest way is to enter opera:config into your address bar.
next enter "Enable Hardware Acceleration" with out the quotes into the search field and hit enter. if it comes up then set the number to "0" again without the quote marks.
The setting are "0" off "1"Auto "2" forced .
If Opera gave no return on the results you will have to use plan B

To turn off HA manually you MUST first close Opera!! or you risk corrupting the file that you will be editing operaprefs.ini
you will find the file in C:/documents and Settings/user(whatever you are called here for user)/application data/opera/operanext . Note: windoz visa & up has a extra thingy "/roaming /" in the location.
find and open operaprefs.ini in notepad. locate [User Perfs] section then add this line :
"Enable Hardware Acceleration=0" without the quotes in the [User Prefs] section
save and close the file .
when you reopen opera Hardware Acceleration will be off

the same methods hold true for the webGL setting which is also a type of HA that may or may not work for your card .
cheers!!
I think hardware acceleration needs a little work. I have a Radeon HD 4850 (rated 7.2 in windows 7 experience index) so it's not a particularly slow card.

it's especially bad when the page have fixed elements AND you zoomed in, try this Galaxy nexus review on theverge.com, not only is the scrolling slow, the text on the left navigation bar and top bar (both fixed) would flicker.

well, can I confirm it even though plenty people have reported it (on Chinese forum they even gave this problem a nickname...)

true, theverge.com is unusable... on opera
PS:
I tried the disabling of hardware acceleration, but that made no difference. I don't think any web browser under Linux uses hardware acceleration anyway.
Opera, please fix your bugs. This "slow laggy scrolling" is a real show-stopper, simply because it is a very visible (in your face) bug!
