Opera cannot view streaming from http://english.cntv.cn/live/ and http://www.channelnewsasia.com
After over 10 years of using Opera I am coming close to defect into FireFox.QUESTION/PROBLEM 1 - http://english.cntv.cn/live/.
I cannot view news streaming from http://english.cntv.cn/live/. I had tried to install Windows Media Player Plugin for Firefox into Opera which some people say may fix the problem to no avail. Initially, Firefox can't view either but once installed the WMP plugin, it work!
QUESTION/PROBLEM 2 -http://www.channelnewsasia.com/live/
Error message:
We only support IE & FireFox in Windows, and Safari & FireFox in Mac.
Can anyone using Opera able to watch http://english.cntv.cn/live/ or http://www.channelnewsasia.com/live/?
Any fix or hack to enable Opera to watch http://english.cntv.cn/live/?

Confirmed here. Masking as FF does not help.

Goto "Ctrl + F12 -> advanced -> programs ->". Type "mms" in the protocol field and ok out. You don't need to set any other options in it. Then, the Firefox wmp plugin should work with mms URIs as long as it's enabled in opera:plugins and application/x-ms-wmp in "ctrl + F12 -> advanced -> downloads" has the firefox plug-in selected in the use plug-in drop-down.
This looks to be an Opera bug imo.

Goto "Ctrl + F12 -> advanced -> content -> manage site preferences". Add a site preference for "channelnewsasia.com" (minus quotes).
On the network tab for the site preference, set "mask as firefox".
On the script tab for the site preference, set the userjs directory to a folder on your desktop that contains fix.js with this as its content:
delete window.opera;
That will get your farther where it will ask you to install the TVUPlayer. I didn't install that and see how much farther I'd get. You'll have to try that.
The problem is that there's some browser detection somewhere that looks for 'opera' in the user agent string. Masking as Firefox fixes that. But, in <http://dl.tvunetworks.com/webplayer/webplayer.js>, there's a check for window.opera. So, you have to hide window.opera from scripts.
So, this one is definitely the site's fault. But, not sure if they're blocking Opera for a reason or just to be idiots.
CNTV and CNA now work flawlessly in Opera under your very easy and well set out tweaking instructions.
I actually spent the whole of last night installing Firefox 9(Aurora) and looking for identical extensions/plugins/addons for it like those I am using in Opera. Found almost 90% of them. Can't find the followings that are useful for me.
CleanPages by QuHno (Strip all "craps off a page with just the main article text and main article pictures)
Translator by sailormax ( I want the box that can auto-detect "from" and translate "to" a default or ad-hoc selected language after you highlight and copy)
Translate by neilj (This is where it auto detect it is not in English and ask if you want it to translate your entire page to the language it think it is right on top of your tab windows)
Youtube dark simplified by manogamez (There is a ff version of Turn off the lights but that is not quite the same)
But these no longer worry me now that I have worked out how to watch those two news channels in opera.
On the other hand, does anyone know if there exist a version of the FF extension 'HTTPS FINDER' for opera?
I also have another issue in opera when it come to viewing certain pages where I want to download podcast but I will create a seperate new post for that.
Thanks.
Irene
I have another problem with tvu this time starting about over a week agin. When I try to load http://www.channelnewsasia.com/live/, TVU plugin on the webpage says "You can only watch one TVU player at a time. Please stop your other TVU player (it might be on a web page) before starting a new one."
I don't have anything else or another tvu player running. I have already checked my c:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\host and it already showing the following two lines which is said to be a fix to this issue.
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost
Anyone has any idea? I was able to view the news from http://www.channelnewsasia.com/live/ till over a week ago.
