Tab Grouping really slows down old fashioned Tab Management
Once upon a day, I could reshuffle tabs/pages to my delight by dragging them around. This exercise is now like pulling teeth. Everything I do seems arbitrary and random, tabs keep getting collapsed into groups, even when I think I'm taking care to avoid grouping.Let me start by saying I will not use tab groups ever, for anything, that I'm very good at managing windows, and have no use for another subdivision level. The new subdivision you've added, tab groups, makes doing what I used to do, managing tabs in windows, very frustrating: many many actions of mine spawn tab groups, and de-grouping them is a painful counter operation that wastes time.
The net is that many actions in Opera either forcibly open a tab group (moving a page between windows) or require precision and care to prevent the creation of a tab group (moving a page inside a window). In the Windows pane, similar care and precision is required where previously slop was ok.
My preference would be a new preferences option to disable tab groups entirely. My backup request would be, please, add a keyboard modifier that will prevent the creation of new tab groups when moving pages between or across windows. Also, I see no cause for dragging a single page between windows to automatically create a tab group: what was the cause for this behavior choice? Finally, tab groups need an "expand"/de-group option, so that when I do create a tab group, it doesn't require deliberate care to hand pick each item out of the group, dragging and dropping it into the 5 pixel wide corridor between tabs to de-group.
This feature heavily interferes with normal Opera operation and workflows. I have a hard time imagining tab-groups as a default-action for moving tabs, yet 80% of the tab bar real estate will create a new tab-group, all inter-window operations will, and there's no easy means to circumvent this behavior: this seems extremely skewed and unfriendly. Please de-fang this new capability and make it less intrusive to conventional Opera operators.
I agree there should be an option to disable tab stacking, but this is just another duplicate of many previous threads such as this one.
One thing you should do is make sure that tab wrapping is disabled.
Have you tried using the Windows Panel?
Right-click on a group, and unstack it.
