Links are not functional when sent in emails

When I send a link in an email, for some reason it does not work when the email is received.
Links in emails that I receive from someone else work fine.
This appears to be a recent development.

Are you sending a text/plain email or an HTML email? If the latter, are you using insert -> link to insert an HTML link or are you just typing text that looks like a link?

HTML email and copying and pasting the link text into the email body.

You'll need to insert an HTML link instead.

When you're typing a plain text message, the receiving client can easily linkify the address. But, if you do the same with an HTML message, the receiving client can't turn the address into a link because if you inserted an HTML link that had an address as its text content, the address would get linkified even though the address is already inside a link. The receiving mail client would have to avoid linkifying addresses that are not part of the textContent of links, textareas and a bunch of other stuff.

So, if you just have the link text in an HTML message, most receiving clients won't linkify it.

Also, in Opera, when you type an address, Opera doesn't turn it into an HTML link when you press space or enter after it. So, you need to use "insert -> Link" to get a real HTML link.
