How do I configure Opera Mail for locally reading my emails stored in the "maildir" format

Hi all,

I have an "offlineimap" daemon constantly running and saving my 5 Gmail mailboxes through the IMAP procotol.
My mails are locally stored using the "maildir" protocol which is an suitable format for backuping my messages ('mbox' would require a full back up at each minor update).
I chose to download the last Opera Mail version because I read that it support "maildir" mailboxes and it is has a nice graphical API (I am working under Windows 7).

The problem is I did not find any way in the configuration where I can specify that I want to read my mails locally and in the "maildir" protocol.
I do not want importing but just read my messages where "offlineimap" stored them (I have more than 40 GB of mails).
Moreover, I did not find where to specify my root directory generated by "offlineimap".

* Could anyone explain me how to configure Opera Mail for reading local "maildir" directories ?

* Finally, I do not want to specify any IMAP server since I only want to work offline : in Opera, configuring an IMAP server seems to be mandatory so is there any way to avoid this step ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't think Opera can do this.

The Wikipedia article about mail readers states that Opera Mail supports 'maildir' since version 9.20 (see "Database, folders and customization" comparison array).

"Opera Mail : maildir (9.20 and Above), mbox (9.10 and Below)"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_email_clients

Perhaps, 'maildir' was introduced in version 9.20 and removed later, I do not know.
This is also possible that the Wikipedia article is wrong.

You are welcome if you have any information about this (and I will update the Wikipedia article consequently).

It probably just means that Opera supports connecting to IMAP servers that use maildir. Opera doesn't support adding an account that just points to a maildir dir where Opera accesses the messages there. If you want messages in Opera, you have to import mbox files or create an IMAP/POP/NNTP/Feed account.

Opera on the wiki page is listed as supporting maildir *directly*. But, I don't know what they mean by "directly".

On the web, people using the word "directly" about maildir usually meant that the mail reader directly read the local maildir directory.
Moreover, maildir is a local mailbox format like mbox is which is different than IMAP which is a mail server protocol.
Consequently, when it is written that a mail reader support maildir, I suppose it means that it can read local maildir mailboxes.

But in facts, I did not find any way to do it in Opera so I suppose the Wikipedia article is wrong about Opera Mail.
