How to Hide Sent Messages from Gmail IMAP Accounts
In Opera, if you have a sent folder set on the IMAP tab in the account's properties, "All Messages/Sent" and the IMAP sent folder will be synced and messages from the IMAP sent folder will be treated as sent where "view -> show -> show sent" above a view's message list will control whether sent messages are shown in that view or not.For Gmail IMAP accounts, since "Sent Mail" is set as the IMAP sent folder, the messages in it are treated as sent and can be controlled by "view -> show -> sh ow sent" just like with regular IMAP accounts.
However, with Gmail, since sent messages are part of the conversation and shown together with received messages in the conversation view, not only are there copies of sent messages in "Sent mail", but there are copies of sent messages in "All Mail".
Since "All Mail" is not set as the IMAP sent folder, sent messages coming from it are not treated as sent messages by Opera and therefore can't be controlled by "view -> show -> show sent". This means that you can't hide these sent messages from views under Opera's "All Messages" access point for example.
If you really can't get used to this and really want to hide the sent messages in the conversation, there is a workaround.
For each Gmail IMAP account:
Create a label in the "Labels" access point. Name it want you want.
Right-click on the label and goto "properties".
On the "options" tab, uncheck "only apply to new" and check "hide these messages from other views".
On the "rules" tab, add a rule matching messages where the from header contains your gmail address (you@gmail.com).
Then, those sent messages will be hidden in all views that have "View -> show -> show hidden" unchecked.
These messages won't be hidden from labels that have "hide these messages from other views" set though as that forces "show hidden' to be checked for the label.
