Using Opera to import mail from one gmail account into another?
I need to transfer a large amount of mail from an old gmail account to a new gmail account (technically these are both Google Apps accounts). Obviously I want to preserve the labels as I do this.I've done this in the past by ensuring the destination account has the same labels as the source account, then with labels enabled to appear as IMAP folders I've dragged and dropped all my mail from one account to the other, folder by folder.
But I'm wondering if I could simply use Opera's new account wizard to import mail from the source account into the destination account. This would obviously require that I have Opera configured to store all mail and attachments offline for the source account first.
Will this work to preserve labels? Or is it generally a bad idea?

You mean like:
* Make a copy of the mail folder.
(You'd have to make a copy I think as your original would be in use if Opera is started)
* Use the "Import from Opera" wizard, point it to accounts.ini in the copy of the mail folder.
* Import the same Gmail IMAP account you already have.
* Change the email address, username and password for the account you imported.
?
If so, I don't know if that'll work or not. If it worked somewhat, you'd probably lose folders that are not present in the other IMAP account when you change the address and username/password to the other account. Also, once you switch the login, that might invalidate the ids Opera has stored for the messages and all the imported messages would be just be local and not tied to anything.
In other words, I don't think it'd work and don't think it'd auto-create missing IMAP folders or auto-upload missing messages to the other IMAP server.
Also, note that you can't import into IMAP an existing IMAP account at all. You have to import into a pop account and drag.
The original way you do it work is the way I would suggest.

You had the correct idea about my plan. Although I thought I would be able to import directly into the destination account, rather than importng the account as a new account (essentially doing nothing). Opera has a drop-down list labeled "Import into" but it appears that "new account" is the only option. That must be what you mean by not being able to import into an IMAP account.
I'll do it the old way. Thanks for clarifying. I always appreciate your assistance.
