Non-editable posts should be non-editable

I'm aware that there is a 24hrs limit for editing posts. But when I saw the "Edit" link under yesterday's post I thought that I was within the time limit and made some additions to my post - took me 30 minutes sad . Only when I tried to post I received this:

"You cannot edit forum posts" - Yes, I can ...unfortunately MyOpera happily lets me edit my posts, but prevents me from posting them.
My request would be to
a) Don't show the "edit" link when a edited post cannot be reposted
b) If a) is not possible, the link should pop-up the "Forbidden" warning and not the edit field
c) If neither a) nor b) is possible, the edit field should actually be non-editable, i.e. read only to prevent users from wasting their time with unsuccessful edits.

After the "Forbidden" warning I tried to go back and received this:

What is this? Received this with or without Javascript. I couldn't go back.

If you get the "forbidden" message, don't even try going back. Quote yourself, make your changes on the new post, then delete the original post.
Yeah, I know, it's a workaround with a dog leg. awww

Its useful to be able to edit old posts to copy the formatting.

Now you know about the problem (I don't usually have any problem going back, but it can happen) you don't need to lose anything ever again. Just copy the post after editing it, then repost it at the end of the thread, and delete your old post. Quoting your own post is another method, but don't forget to delete the quote codes.
