"Bitmap Fonts" are Inconsistant at Best
I have an LG Optimus S with Android 2.2 on which I use Opera Mini. I switched from Opera Mobile on information that Opera Mini can do bitmap fonts and that this is a good thing if you're having trouble displaying some of the more uncommon Unicode characters. That's important to me because I'm learning French, and it is convenient to be able to see the pronounciation guides on Wiktionary.Well, Opera Mini with bitmap fonts enabled is better for this, if by better you mean not all of the uncommon Unicode characters are illegible. What really annoys me is that often, characters that show up well in one place are illedgible in others. The following screenshot shows part of the Wiktionary conjugation guide for the word "répliquer" as it appears on my phone:

Anything to be done about this? Thanks in advance for your help.
The setting is "Use bitmap fonts for complex scripts" and is meant for the (unfortunately common) cases where phones don't support scripts that are complex to render, such as Devanagari or Arabic. Many phones also report incorrectly that they do support such scripts, so we can't rely on checking what the phone supports.
IPA isn't especially "complex", but obviously isn't well supported in phone fonts. I'll look into what we'd need to do to enable full display of IPA with bitmap fonts enabled. At first glance it seems we need to use bitmap fonts for these Unicode blocks:

- IPA Extensions (0250–02AF) — already enabled for bitmap fonts
- Spacing Modifier Letters (02B0–02FF)
- Phonetic Extensions (1D00–1D7F)
- Phonetic Extensions Supplement (1D80–1DBF)
- Modifier Tone Letters (A700–A71F)
- Superscripts and Subscripts (2070–209F)
