Get "write files to cd" error when I open Opera

I have Opera 11.52 installed on Windows XP. I built a new computer from scratch, also with Xp. I wanted to transfer my bookmarks to the new computer. so I burned the bookmarks.adr file to a cd and then transfered them to the new system. Presto, done - or so I thought.

Now on the original system that I had, the annoying little popup "files are ready to be written to cd" shows it's ugly little head every time I open Opera. I have deleted to temporary file, I even deleted the original bookmarks.adr completely from the system. I do not have a single bookmark on the old system, and I still get the popup every time I load Opera.

If I bookmark a page, the popup is continuous. It will keep popping up about as fast as you can close it.

I unistalled opera, deleted opera download from my system, restarted and then downloaded a fresh version of opera and installed it. Open Opera, popup is back.

I am computer stupid so I can not figure it out. If anybody has a solution I would love to hear. I appreciate any help I can get.

You told opera to store bookmarks on the cd. While cd's are read-only. There is a little problem.

See here: opera:config#Hot%20List%20File%20Ver2

Copy the file to: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Opera (this is a hidden folder)
And change the path here opera:config#Hot%20List%20File%20Ver2

Thanks for the reply. I must be really computer stupid, because I spent a bunch of time and couldn't figure out how to change it back, even with your instructions

I see. My links have been destroyed by the forum. Copy and paste failure
Let me fix it.

I assume your username is bob, copy this into the RUN dialog.
C:\Documents and Settings\bob\Application Data\Opera

The basic problem is that Opera tries to write on a CD. Which is not possible.
You need to copy you bookmarks.adr file to here:
C:\Documents and Settings\bob\Application Data\Opera[/URL]

And make sure that file is selected here:
Go to "opera:config" and search for "hot list", one item should remain

Hello,

I think I got it, but I am not sure. It is kind of weird because my paths are not exactly as they should be.

If I go here - C:\Documents and Settings\bob\Application Data\Opera

I have the following folders: Opera, Widget Analog Clock, Opera Widget Installer, Widget SimAquarium

If I go one folder deeper into the second tier "Opera" directory folder, then I have a number of folders inside there ( Dictionaries, Sessions, Toolbar, etc), plus bookmarks.adr, unite.adr, and a shitload of other files in the same directory

In any case, I did what you said and I have not seen the popup, even after I bookmarked a page or two.

Thanks

Bob
