You're supposed to have duplicates with Gmail IMAP. A copy from "All Mail" and copies for each Gmail label the message is in (starred, Inbox, Important, custom Gmail label). See <http://operawiki.info/GmailIMAP>.

Try a database consistency check to see if it helps.

Click the check/send button drop-down on the mail panel toolbar and choose "resynchronize".

What view in Opera are you seeing these duplicates in? Are all the duplicates also in "[Gmail]/Important"? If they are, you can either unsubscribe to "[Gmail]/Important" or fix the index for "[Gmail]/Important" in index.ini in the mail folder so that flags= is set to 263 instead of 259.

For "All Messages/Received" click the view button on the mail toolbar above the message list, goto "show" and make sure "show hidden" is unchecked. If there's a reason you have "show hidden" checked, then uncheck "show duplicates".

Opera doesn't have a "search for duplicates and delete" feature.

hi, burnout.. i read your reply and i dont think you know what youre talking about. youre NOT supposed to have duplicates in gmail imap. i've had gmail imap for 4 years with opera. and last month for the 1st time, ive been seeing hundreds of emails of duplicates and ghosts. so i really dont know why youre saying this. by the way, i tried the advice you mentioned on removing ghosts.. but it doesnt work.

Click the check/send button drop-down on the mail panel toolbar and choose "resynchronize".

there is no "resynchronization" feature in the check/send button drop-down.

in mail view. when i click 'panels' then i see mail. the duplicates are in all mail, inbox, sent, and spam. i dont have gmail/important enabled.

For "All Messages/Received" click the view button on the mail toolbar above the message list, goto "show" and make sure "show hidden" is unchecked. If there's a reason you have "show hidden" checked, then uncheck "show duplicates".

i have unchecked 'show hidden'.. but theres no 'show duplicates' feature that i can see. and i got the latest opera version. what version are you using?

Forgot you have to use 11.60+ to have that.

It's there in 11.52 for me. What version of Opera are you using? Also, as LeoCG said, goto "Ctrl + F12 -> advanced -> toolbars" and make sure you're using the "Opera Standard" menu setup. Also, switch to the "Opera Standard" toolbar setup and recustomize your toolbars. Or, right-click on the mail panel toolbar and the mail toolbar above the message list, goto customize and reset the toolbars to defaults. If you still don't see "show duplicates" in the view menu, perhaps, there's something messed up with your index.ini. Have you been upgrading for a long time?

I do know what I'm talking about. Relax.

You are. But, the duplicates I'm talking about (that should be hidden in regular views) may be different than what you're talking about. That's all.

What you need to do is use the "standalone installation" option in the installer to install to a folder on your desktop. Then, setup the Gmail IMAP account in it (do not import anything) and see if it works fine there. If it does, then it's just something messed up with your mail folder or some mail setting that we can investigate.

You can also try to just delete the Gmail IMAP account and add it back in to see if that helps.

O.K.

With "show hidden" unchecked, that should make sure the duplicates that I'm talking about are hidden. So, if you still see duplicates, it's probably something else. You mentioned ghosts and that the database check didn't help, so it's possible the database is corrupted.

You still get the duplicate in a "standalone installation"? If so, that should mean that they're still on the server at mail.google.com (somewhere). If you don't get them in a "standalone installation", then you'll just have to fix your normal Opera. Best way to do that is to close down Opera, delete the mail folder, start Opera and add the Gmail IMAP account back in. But, if you have any POP, Feed or newsgroup accounts, see this. You'll lose labels and their rules when you delete the mail folder of course. But, if the database/indexer is that messed up where even a database consistency check doesn't fix it, that's your only option.

See Help > About Opera. The path to the mail folder will be listed under "Paths".

If you didn't load it with all your bookmarks, mail and browsing history etc., then it'd just be faster because there's less stuff to deal with. For mail specifically, a newly-created mail folder for example would be less fragmented that a heavily used one.

Not really except close down Opera and delete the cache, opcache, temporary_downloads and vps folders. Then, maybe defrag the mail folder (or all of Opera's profile files). Deleting all your history and cookies might help a little too. And, if you have a ton ( I guess 100s) of passwords saved, that can make Opera slow according to some people. Deleting wand.dat (to wipe out all your passwords) and then only saving a smaller amount might help. But, that's going overboard.

But, if you use Opera extensions, one of them may be slowing Opera down.

There's also the case of operaprefs.ini. It doesn't contain very much by defaults and a lot of settings aren't listed in there unless you've changed the default for them. But, when you starting configure Opera and messing around in opera:config, lots of settings get listed in operaprefs.ini, which can cause the file to get bigger, which may cause some performance problems. But, I wouldn't worry about it.

That's about the only ideas I can give ya. Any more would require a thread in the Opera browser forum.

hi burnout.. i got a slight problem. the 'all messages' shows all the sub folders, so thats ok. but in the account label showing my email address with [Gmail] underneath it, i'm not able to see 'all mail', 'sent mail', 'spam', and 'trash'. the [Gmail] is greyed out. the only subfolder that i can see is the 'Inbox'. when i right click on the label showing my email address, and then go to Customize, i see that all the subfolders in the menu are clicked to show the subfolders. but again, the subfolders are not showing up under the label with my email address.. how do i enable the subfolders in [Gmail] to appear? and how do i un-grey [Gmail]?

Restart Opera first. If that doesn't work, goto "Menu -> mail -> imap folders" and make sure they're checked. If they are, you might try unsubscribing from them and then resubscribing. Also, make "show in IMAP" for all those labels isn't unchecked at mail.google.com

If none of that works, delete the IMAP account and add it back in. If that doesn't work, see if it works fine in a "standalone installation". If it does, you may have to start with a new mail folder.

You could click the view button on the mail panel toolbar and reset the mail panel to defaults.

Like always, you just have to narrow it down.

opera:config#Opera%20Directory is where your roaming profile folder is at. opera:config#Opera%20Local%20Directory is where you local profile folder is at. Those are the only places that Opera's profile files will be at so, just look in them whenever you need to find something.

Also, many of the directories for things are listed in opera:about (Menu -> Help -> About Opera).
