I miss the personal bar in Opera 11

Hi Folks,

Why does Opera 11.52 block the personal bar from showing up outside the customization process?

I tried all that was suggested, I think!

Thanks in advance!

It doesn't block it, the Bookmarks Bar (aka Personalbar Inline) replaced it. If you tick the box to show hidden toolbars while customising you can enable the old personal bar and disable the bookmarks bar.

Thanks for the quick reply!

What you did not mention was to right click the personal bar while all bars are unhidden, and THERE is a menu item which replaces the bookmarks bar with the personal bar. Still the bookmarks bar is activated in the customize tool, and it controls the personal bar!

Thanks again,

Maybe because its irrelevant. With all of the toolbars shown you can set the placement to top, bottom, left, right, or off, after selecting the toolbar you wish to configure. As I said, the Bookmark bar should be disabled.

The Bookmarks bar and the Personal bar both hold the same content so you don't need them both. The personal bar was retained for backwards compatibility. Perhaps one day it will be dropped.

I hope that the Personal Bar NEVER gets dropped! I found the the bookmarks bar too cluttered! I would rather that the Bookmarks Bar gets the axe!
Take care

What are you talking about? They're the same apart from their position. If you have some unwanted sponsored links on your bookmarks toolbar just delete them.

My personal bar has about a half dozen of interesting bookmarks!

My _real_ bookmarks are over 400kb and would not fit on any bar! happy

Later.

They will fit if you organize them into folders. My bookmarks/personal bar consists of 16 folders that hold hundreds of individual bookmarks. For instance I have "Banks" folder, "Electronics" folder, "entertainment" folder, "health", "Misc", "News", "Shopping" etc and each one is a button on the bar that opens up to reveal all the bookmarks in that folder as well as an "Add bookmark" for each individual folder.

You can add the folders by clicking "New" inside the Opera>Bookmarks>Manage bookmarks menu. This is one of my favorite features of Opera.
If it ain't broke,tweak it!

You're still not making any sense. The Bookmarks Bar is the Personal Bar — its just in a different position.

When I see all the unhidden bars together, they look like your setup! But initially when I tried the bookmark bar, I got this huge vertical panel that was unreadable! Now that I have refound my personal bar, they look identical! Strange world confused
