Mail list view - Touched and untouched messages? (Build 1150)

With the new mail list view, it seems it not longer marks touched messages differently to untouched messages. Am I overlooking something?

The ability to identify new messages from message I've touched (read, but not marked as read) is perhaps the number one reason I tolerate Opera Mail.

This feature helped me manage my emails. Any emails I need to respond to I leave as unread, and previously I could easily identify new unread messages from unread message I need to respond to.

If this feature is gone, I really hope it comes back.

Changed behaviour here.

Previously: New emails bold blue; email opened but marked unread bold balck

New stlye: all emails the same colour - black. Except on my laptop (W7 64bit), same as this m/c, where some random emails turn up blue.

I agree with @dworm I used the colour marking to manage my unread messages. I hope we can see this feature return.

Do you mind reverifying that? It would be relief to know this is a bug and that maybe I can get around it by doing a clean install or something.

As pen-ultimate described, my new messages are not blue--they are all black regardless of if they have been touched or not.

I'm also on Win 7 64 bit and my mail is retrieved from a Google Apps account using IMAP.

They aren't the same shade of blue as they used to be, but they are blue, here. 1150, on Windows XP. Haven't actually installed the new 12.00 build 1155 yet to see if that's the same (though of course it should be).

I haven't received any new messages in my IMAP account (my MyOpera mail account) to see if it may be related to that, but on my regular email (which is a POP3 account) it works as expected. Oh, this is "List and messages below" and with grouping and threading disabled, let me check those options ... no change here. confused

Maybe it's just a glitch on my Work PC. I've just updated my Home PC with the latest version of 12 and I see the blue messages there. So I'm not so concerned now as I'll switch back to using Opera Next on my work PC.

I just switched back to using OperaNext (1155) at work and am having the same issue.

However, I've noticed that messages I hadn't touched prior to the upgrade are appearing blue. But any new messages instantly appear as black.

Is there any suggestions that I should try to identify why it's not working for myself, but is working for others?

Hmm ... folders? I guess they're all called "Labels" now aren't they ... I don't use them at all, just wondering if perhaps the filtering to automatically put them in folders does that (now). Something that happens on your work PC but not at home, shouldn't be hard to figure out.

Hello ,
yes you are correct "Folders" are called Labels now in the e-mail area. and filtering will place them you e-mails into the Labels automatically after rules have be set in properties. Which you access by right clicking on a label and selecting properties from the drop-down menu. I usually use a from contains rule and the e-mail address.

cheers!!

More specifically, blue means unseen, bolded black means seen and regular black means read.

But, note that if you use list and message on right or list and message below instead of list only, as soon as you click the entry in the message list the message will open and the message will be marked as seen. (Which makes sense. But, if you're using the arrow keys (for example) to move up and down the list, you'll be marking a bunch of messages as seen even if you're not really looking at them.)

I did wonder that myself. I've deleted all my labels that had rules. The issue remains--untouched email are black. I still have other labels, but I don't want to remove them unless I absolutely have to.

I'm not so sure it is working on my Home PC now. It'll be a few hours before I can check. But after I did the upgrade I saw blue messages and assumed it work. But I see blue messages on my work PC also, but only for messages that arrived prior to the upgrade. But I'll check to be sure when I get home.

It's working fine for me in 11.60.1147 (1150 and the newest 12 build crash too much when closing mail tabs). But, I do remember this being the case with at least one earlier build with the new mail design. If you used the build with that problem and upgraded, maybe something with the statuses or skin doesn't get fixed with an upgrade.

Test with a standalone installation without resusing an existing mail folder to see if it works right there.

Here unseen messages are black as also unread ones. But unseen feeds are blue.

My work emails come through blue before they are opened and then go black after they're opened. But my gmail emails all arrive black.

Edited to add: but only on my laptop.

IMAP perhaps?

Is the issue perhaps that:

Previously, a message would be marked/recoloured as 'read' when you clicked on it.

Now, by default, you have to manually mark a message as "read" which is a setting I prefer anyway. This way, messages only get marked as read when you have actually read them and want to mark them as such. Otherwise I find myself mistakenly clicking on a message for a moment and then forgetting to read it because it automatically gets marked as read.

You can change this setting in the new version by clicking on the little spanner "Options" icon and at the bottom changing the "Mark as read" option from "Manually" to "After 1, 2, 5, 10 seconds"...

No, messages are read when marked as read (in the Unread view it can't be changed) ... but new messages were listed in blue until they had been looked at - and for me still are, but for some that does not seem to be true.

So is there a consensus that this is an issue just with Google IMAP? If so, I'll log a bug report for this.

And based on a single test, it looks like it has made it into Opera Next 1191. Excellent smile

I had overlooked so many emails in the last couple of weeks because of this. I'm glad to have it back.
