Opera Turbo Full Time on the Desktop
Hello -Just curious if there are "downsides" to using Opera Turbo full time. I understand that image are compressed and may not display perfect. When I open Opera sometimes I get a notification saying something to the effect of Opera Turbo won't help on fast Internet connections. I'd like my fast connection to feel even faster!

I'm a HUGE fan of Opera Mini, it's all I use on any mobile device because it simply makes sense.
Anyway, just curious if there are downsides and I should be using the "smart" turbo rather than just leaving it on...
-Thanks
Keep in mind that Turbo runs all your browsing through Opera's own Turbo proxy servers, so it actually complicates overall data-flow between a user and a target website. On a slow desktop connection, the added proxy complication is more than offset by the savings obtained by image compression, so Turbo is effective. On a fast connection, that no longer remains true.
Also, there are certain websites that read an incoming query's IP and tailor their responses (or even redirect to a different-language server) specifically for the locale that matches the received IP identification. This can cause (and has caused) problems for certain users in one region using Turbo and receiving back a response tailored to the region where Opera's Turbo server was located, since the Turbo server IP is the one actually communicating with the website.

Opera 12.14u (1738), 11.52 (1100) & 10.63 (3576) running on various Windows systems from Win7-64 down through KernelEx4-modified Win98FE (proof that reports of Win98's demise are greatly exaggerated).
To significantly speed up a fast connection you can disable images and Enable On Demand Plugin, but Turbo is best left off.

By disabling Javascript globally can make your fast connection to feel even faster. Keep in mind that most part of junk gets loaded through Javascript.
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death.
It doesn't matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle: when the sun comes up, you'd better be running.

Excellent, thanks all.
Double thanks for this, I was looking for an extension... didn't realize it's built in!
