Default search engine settings

Hi All.

With Opera Mobile on Android, I can add search engines, but I can't change the default.

This is driving me mad, because I am Australian, and I use a 10" tablet.

The default goes to the stupid google mobile site. I want it to default to the full site, Australian version. Is there an option for this?

Can this be fixed?

Try this
Visit http://google.com
if you've got the mobile page then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on classic .
When the page reloads long press on the Text box where you enter search term and from the shortcut menu that pops up select "Add search engine " . change the name to Google Desktop

Open a new tab and select search and click on the Google icon on the left and select Google Desktop from the list of search engines when you want to use Google Desktop search.

Does anyone know if we can also use the mobile version of Google's site that we get in the stock Android Browser? I think it's silly that we have Google's old mobile site by default.

Did you miss the part where the OP wanted to change the default search engine?

so far there isn't any option to change the default search engine, but the above steps would get you pretty close to having your desired search engine within easy reach.

There may be a different solution to your problem. Use opera configuration to chose a custom desktop browser user agent in user preferences. Viola ! Google takes you to the desktop page by default.

History: "/data/data/com.opera.browser/opera/etc/4/all"
Speed Dial: "/data/data/com.opera.browser/opera/etc/6/dials"
Saved pages: "/data/data/com.opera.browser/opera/etc/B/all"
Downloads: "/data/data/com.opera.browser/opera/etc/F/all"
