'XML parsing failed' Error when an anti-virus site is opned

Hello all,

I am new to Opera. Have loved it so far bcoz of quick loading and trouble-free navigation.

But today when I wanted to visit a website the following error message displayed:

"XML parsing failed

XML parsing failed: syntax error (Line: 48, Character: 370)"

I wanted to visit Mcafee's website. This is the antivirus I'm using.

The message continues with a few lines of scripts, which I could not understand.

The site, however, opens in IE.

Any ideas as to why it is and how to get rid of the problem so that I can revisit it smoothly...

Thanks

Hello robibhatt and welcome to the community.

----------CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM-----------------------
The McAfee website sends XHTML code to Opera while it sends HTML code to other browsers, including IE. The problem is that the XHTML content McAfee sends to Opera has errors which violate well-formedness rules - XHTML code must be error-free or the XML parser will stop the parsing immediately - giving an 'XML parsing failed' message.

This is a problem with McAfee only and Opera has no fault here. Even though it's McAfee's fault there are numerous websites which send XHTML code with errors to Opera and Opera fails to display the website.
---------------------------------------------------------------

------------SOLUTION--------------------

Although Opera is not at fault here - the company just can't keep on losing users for something which is not their fault.

So with Opera 11.60 and above, Opera will re-parse XHTML/XML code as HTML if it contains any errors - you will not notice anything and your browsing experience will be like IE, or other browsers you use.

Opera 11.60 is still in Beta stage currently - but it's mostly stable.

You can download Opera 11.60 build from here - http://snapshot.opera.com/11.60_windows.html

NOTE: Opera 11.60 Beta Set-up will overwrite Opera 11.52 if the default installation options are not changed. Please change the default options as per the instructions given here.
Windows 7 SP1 x86 edition and Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Another solution is to use Site Preferences and mask as IE or Firefox. Right click in the page or F12, Edit Site Preferences, Network Tab. The site cookies may also need to be deleted. See this thread in the Open the Web forum: Error XML parsing failed on home.mcafee.com......aspx
