if you ever found an old manuscript, what would you do?

Recently my friend discovered something very awkward, he bought an old house and found some documents dating 1801. There are records and a diary of a certain priest from England. Wow, these pages are so amusing and deserve to be published. The problem is: Must I cash in on this or should I send this to the museum? A bit confused because this guy recorded part of South Africa's history which is not known or could alter the way I see history.

what must I do?

Send it to the publishing house and cash in

That might work...

Send it to the museum for authentication?

Wouldn't the museum be willing to pay any money for it?

Just change the names a bit and claim authorship?

definitely send it to the publishing house and cash in....or how about tracing the real writer? Well that might be quite tidious.... In terms of claiming authorship, hows that possible it was written in 1809? Except you make it fictitous and that way it losses its true value or worth. Anyway coming out with the truth is always less complicated.

I was contacted two years ago by a woman who had a very rare, specially printed book that involved one of the organisations I am in. It was a beautifully bound and gold embossed item from another time and age. The pictures in it also had thin tissue over them and I knew that it was worth something. However I handed it into the HQ and the archives.

If you find an old manuscript, it is customary to start a religion.

But Jaybro you have an old manuscript and called it a Constitution and founded a world wide kind of "worship us religion or else"! (dire warnings to all too if you didn't support!) yikes

When in doubt just write your own.

That said, google's first result for 'book of mormon' was this - "A new broadway musical from the creators of South Park" lol lol lol

True to form and given a typical opportunity - of course.
