Newbi having problems importing from Thunderbird
I am wanting to migrate from Thunderbird to Opera Mail. While Opera speaks of eliminating the traditional "Inbox" in its HELP text, having "everything" imported into "Received" leaves my head spinning in that I can't distinguish the folders from which the messages came. (See my current Thunderbird tree structure at: http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/g410/GraeagleBill/p1-1.jpg) As you can see, I have the traditional Inbox, Drafts, Sent and trash plus "Local Folders" where I keep both current and historical emails. Can anyone offer some guidance as to how to maintain the old folder identities in mapping all the emails into Opera Mail? There's obviously a set of nuances in Opera Mail that involve "views", but so far I've not been able to assimilate to the point of success with importing.
The newsgroups I subscribe to can easily be recreated "from scratch".
Thanks for any help offered.

See <http://my.opera.com/operawiki/forums/topic.dml?id=1130232> for specific Thunderbird directions. (I need to remove almost everything after the "compact folders" section as it's duplicated in this newer, generic post.)

Also, see How M2 Views Work so you have some idea of how Opera works.
Okay, I've absorbed quite a bit from your reply. I'm accustomed to databases both large and small (Access developer), so I'm ready to learn more about how to establish meaningful filters to essentially delineate DB views to reveal what was heretofore stored in folders. (Outlook Express in XP and more recently Windows Live Mail and Thunderbird in Win 7) Your side note on dragging the account selector to the mail panel was also helpful.
So, in Thunderbird, the identifiable files are not marked as mbox. Rather, for example, Inbox and inbox.msf are shown. Which of the two files for any given folder is the correct one to import?
Thanks,
Bill

"Inbox" is the mbox file. Mbox files generally either have no extension or the "mbs" extension. The .msf files are not needed.

You can make filters work pretty much the same way as folders by hiding filtered emails from other views/filters/access points.
In my opinion Opera's keyword search is so strong that filters are hardly necessary at all. I don't have any; I always know enough about some email I need to find that some keywords bring me there in seconds.
