Email stops working after being online a while...have to close/reopen Opera to restore.
When I launch Opera, emails for all my accounts are checked and retrieved normally. Every 10 minutes all accounts are checked again. But after an unknown amount of time, I notice I'm not getting emails anymore. Manually checking my accounts shows no new emails. (Opera checks but finds nothing) But my HP TouchPad, which has most of the same email accounts set up on it but in "leave messages on server" mode, will show new incoming emails. The only way I can get Opera to start retrieving emails again is to shut down the browser and restart it, and then it will begin working normally again. Using POP email for all accounts. This problem began when I downloaded Opera version 11.52. Anyone else encountering this?Next time it happens, goto "Menu -> settings" and switch to "work offline" and back. Then, check/send.
If that works to solve the problem just like restarting, I'd guess that your net connection gets dropped for some reason while Opera is open and Opera's not recognizing that it comes back. This is a common problem on linux with Opera. Don't think it's generally a problem with Windows though.

Did you install any new anti-virus or update existing anti-virus software at the same time? Either way, try turning off the email scanner and web scanner to see if it helps.
You can download the Opera installer and use the "standalone installation" option to install to a folder on your desktop. Then, setup mail in it (do not import and do not uncheck "leave messages on the server"). Test with it to see if it also has the problem. If it doesn't, then there's probably something messed up with your normal mail folder/opera profile.
First, reinstall Opera over the top of itself (upgrade to the same version) to fix any program file corruption. If that doesn't work, go into the account's properties and check the settings on the incoming tab again. If you have to purposely change them to something else (like the check interval and "check for every...") do it, ok out and go back in and change them back to what you want.
Also, make sure that incoming messages aren't matched by some label rule that automatically marks the messages as read. Also, click the view button on the mail toolbar above the message list, goto "show" and make sure what you want checked is checked. Temporarily choose "show hidden" to see if you see your messages.
You can also log the connection to see if the log says anything about the connection being lost.
Also, see <http://my.opera.com/operawiki/forums/topic.dml?id=1133152> for all kinds of things you can try.
Now, if Opera isn't seeing any new mail at all, you can close down Opera and delete the uidl file for the account. It's in the pop3 folder in the mail folder There's a uidl file for each account. To find out which number the account is, see accounts.ini. When you do this though, all messages that are still on the server will be fetched again. You then have to delete the old duplicates and keep the new ones and of course keep all the messages that only exist in Opera. I don't know if that would fix your issue, but you can try it if you want as long as you don't have lots of message left on the server (otherwise, it'd be a lot of work getting rid of the old duplicates).
Double-check again that "leave messages on the server" is checked for that one so it's not stealing messages of the server.
If all that fails, you can try out a new mail folder.
Finally, test with different pop account from a different mail provider to see if it's only that provider that has the problem.

Thanks for all the tips. I tried going offline and then going back online with Opera running and it began fetching mail again. So apparently, even though when I manually check for messages and Opera says it is "connecting" and then reporting that I have no new mail, it's not actually online. So, when I first start Opera, email works fine, then sometime later (unknown amount of time) it stops fetching mail until I either close and restart Opera, or I do the "go offline/go online" trick.
Is there a fix? This is a new problem, only beginning since the latest version upgrade.

As far as I know, no. Is this with linux or windows though?
Are you connecting wirelessly through a router or is this a wired ethernet connection?
I'd still log the connection though to see what's happening. If you're whole net connection isn't dropping, then maybe it's something with just the mail server. If so, maybe using a longer check interval will prevent it from happening. (If you use IMAP and the server supports IDLE, you'll get your Inbox messages right away anyway.)
