Welcome to the My Opera Community!

You can try a database check to see if it helps.

But, it sounds like things are seriously messed up. Sounds like you need to start over. (If you're using IMAP instead of POP, it's a lot easier, you just export your feeds list and contacts, delete your mail folder and then add the IMAP account back in and import your feeds list and contacts.)

Sounds like a permissions with the mail folder. Make sure the mail folder and all of its files are not set to readonly. Also, goto opera:about and make sure the mail folder location is correct and that the upgrade didn't cause Opera to use a new mail folder or something.

Also, in the mail folder, open index.ini with a text editor. What's the index count and the the number of the last index in the file? Is it over 5000?

Also, when you upgraded to you also install new anti-virus software or update existing anti-virus software?

Also, it'd help if you gave more info on how many mail accounts you have and what type they are. Also, what OS are you using and what version of Opera did you upgrade from? Also, did you let Opera auto-update or did you download the installer and upgrade Opera yourself? Are you running as an administrator or a standard/limited user and where is Opera installed at?

That should be O.K. It's far from the 5000 limit.

Do you mean "C:\Program Files (x86)\Opera" or do you have a 32bit version of Win7?

11.52 works fine. Every new version is better than the older one. (Except 10.5x at the time was rushed out while it was still broken, but that was an exception to the rule.)
