picking the version of java to use

Hey,

This one is a little odd. My work computer has both java 6 and java 7 installed on it. There is a site I use that has issues with java 7 but is fine with java 6.
Since this is a work computer, it's not as easy as to just uninstall java 7 since I don't have admin rights.

I am trying to get Opera to only recognize java 6.
I have tried the following:
in "opera:config", I have edited the "Plugin Path" section to only have java 6.
in "opera:plugins", I have disabled the 2 fields related to java 7.

When I restart Opera, the "opera:plugins" still has the 2 java 7 fields disabled but the "opera:config" has java 7 back in it.
When I go to a site that needs java, Opera loads java 7 even though I have it disabled.

so, is there a correct way to get Opera to only recognize java 6?
(currently using Opera 11.10 at work)

Thanks for any assistance.

Not sure about old 11.10 (forgot what it supports and all that), but you should be able to goto "Ctrl + F12 -> advanced -> downloads" and edit all the java types. In the "use plug-in" drop-down, set jre 6 instead of jre7. It should stick too.

You can also block dlls by name with "defaults/plugin-ignore.ini" in Opera's program file's folder. But, if you're using an Opera installed to the system's program files folder, you won't have access to that. You'd have to download the 11.52 installer and use the "standalone installation" option to install to a folder on your desktop or another spot in your user profile folder and use that Opera. Since its program files will be in your userprofile space, you'll have access to them and you'll be able to edit plugin_ignore.ini.

I didn't test with both versions of java installed, but java 7 should stay disabled if you disable it in opera:plugins. (You can disable plugins via opera:plugins now).

ahhh.. I didn't notice the disable plugin section. I'll have to try that when I get a chance.

Opera 11.x installs in the user profile section so I can edit files.

Forgot. In this case, if the jre6 and jre7 dlls have the same filename, this won't help unless you block them, copy the dll for 6 to Opera's plugins directory and rename the file (make sure it still starts with "np" though) so that it's not blocked.
