Opera process not closing
I apologize in advance if there is already such a topic, but I couldn't find it.So, as the title says, the opera process does not close after I click the "x" to close the browser. And I mean at all. It is not like waiting for 2 minutes or five. I closed it at noon once and tried to open it again in the evening and it was still running.
I am on Win XP Home SP3 with the latest Opera version.
If there is something I can do to correct this problem please help me.
Thank you.
Opera process not closing
Hi, I have from time to time the similar problem on windows 7.
I solve it by starting the Task Manager (Alt-ctrl-del), open the processes folder and terminate the Opera process.
Strange enough there is no program named Opera running, but the process is.
When the process is terminated you will be able to start Opera.
But I have no idea of exactly WHY this problem exists.
good luck.Bjørn

Actually there are multiple other topics on this same subject, but sometimes it takes a bit of "word-smithing" in Opera's Search box to get full results. Here are just 4 from searching "Opera not closing" in all the forums:

It appears there can be multiple reasons for Opera not closing as expected, some of them related to user settings, etc. I encourage you to try some of the things that seem to have worked for others. But at least some of these problem occurrences appear to involve an as-yet undetermined internal Opera behavior problem, and it has existed over multiple recent versions to some degree. From what I've been reading in the forums over recent months, for some users the failure to shut down may be worsened by either leaving Opera continuously open for longer periods or by increased numbers of tabs open when closing. Most Opera users apparently never see the problem at all, or at least never notice it if it does occur to some extent. But for those that do see it, results seem mixed for the various fixes that have been suggested - that is, some users get good results for a given "fix" technique, others don't.
I suspect that at some point, the problem will be designed away serendipitously. But until that happens or until somebody stumbles upon a universal means of reproducing the phenomenon so the developers can snuff it out, the problem will likely persist.

Opera 12.14u (1738), 11.52 (1100) & 10.63 (3576) running on various Windows systems from Win7-64 down through KernelEx4-modified Win98FE (proof that reports of Win98's demise are greatly exaggerated).
