dropdown menus disappear before mouseout in magento admin navbar

http://demo-admin.magentocommerce.com/index.php/admin/ to log into the demo

find one of the longer menus that has 2nd level nav items in it, and note that when the mouse is moved rapidly, the navbar has a disturbing tendency to disappear before one can arrive at the destination item, sometimes before you even get past the first item in the dropdown.

this is particularly problematic with the longer System menu (not shown in the demo) in a live store where the Configuration item is all the way at the bottom of the menu.

Yes, I noticed such a problem too. The issue appears in Opera only, not in Chrome e.g.
The only way I discovered is moving the mouse not very fast and slightly delay it on the items with sub-menus.

by that I presume that you mean to say "the only way I discovered that allowed me to actually USE the dropdown menu without it disappearing on me"

I would also like to note at this time that the problem is now _worse_ with Opera 11.60 -- the dropdowns with submenus are impossible to use. I could try to mouse down to the bottom "Configuration" menu item in the Magento System menu for 20 minutes and MAYBE if I'm lucky, I would succeed once.

I have reported the bug for Opera team. I assume its reference is DSK-354367.

It's a summer 2013 and after few days if struggling with this disappearing menu I've found this thread.
Seems no improvement with it after 2 years...

I'm sure that some option from 'opera:config' page would do the trick - Opera geeks please advise smile

Not Opera's fault at all. Use Site Preferences UserCss with the code below (or place it somewhere in the template).
#nav li:hover > ul {left:auto; z-index:1000;}

you are referring specifically to the magento menus that work fine in every other browser except opera, as-is?

https://gist.github.com/WebDragon/be9c1932a7b8b0d1cc38 here's a gist of the current Magento admin menu css for your perusal. Feel free to play with it on http://dabblet.com/ or http://jsfiddle.net/

Presto computes some items - especially font sizes - differently from other rendering engines. I can't actually say that is the cause here, but there are some website menus that end up with a gap between the item that triggers the drop down and the drop down itself. That would be my first guess. When the mouse passes over the empty area between the trigger and the dropdown, the dropdown closes.

that is my best guess as well as to what the problem is, as that is precisely the behaviour I believe I am seeing. And not coincidentally, the reason behind why I reported it in the first place.
