Why does YouTube look different in Opera?

This really makes me mad; styling is different, even the favicon is different..

I'm not talking about browser differences, and I just installed Opera (v11.52). No extensions where installed when I first noticed the issue.

Just opened youtube on Opera, IE9 and Firefox 7 and did not notice any major difference between them.

Btw, you must be using some userjs or extension - or maybe a different YT setting - since there is no "movies" between Browse and Upload by default.

Just uninstalled Opera, ran CCleaner, restarted and re-installed Opera. Looks like normal now.

I don't know what happened.

Weird, looks like that for me too! I'm using v11.52. Has the granite background and large bottom to maximize. In Opera Next and IE8, Youtube still has the white background and old style buttons. Don't have Chome or FF on this machine to test.

Interesting...

I noticed when I go to youtube.com it actually takes me to

http://www.youtube.com/guide

But if I enter in http://www.youtube.com/guide in IE, FF, Chrome, or even Opera12 next it says that page does not exist??

I actually think the page is pretty cool looking. It does have a different fav icon even.

Here's a pic, you can see if the URL it's http://www.youtube.com/guide, can anyone else get there? I can only access it with Opera 11.52 and no other browser. Works on both my laptop and desktop. I get this unique looking version of Youtube.

Does not load for me (Opera), at least this time around (I'm the thread starter). I get a 404 not found.

To me, I would rather see the webpage as the masses see it, and as the webmaster designed it.

Well, I'm thinking this is the one the "webmaster designed" only it's a new theme that hasn't been officially released yet or something strange like that. Could be wrong though. It's too nice looking to be some sort of error. The nice dark menu down the left side for log in - trending - poplular etc is too nice looking to be some bug.

I think the fact that it's taking us to http://www.youtube.com/guide and no one else can go there hints to it being a special design, that we 'accidentally' have access to it or something ( or a design for a mobile device or as usual it thinks opera is a mobile device).

Did some more testing. Installed Opera 11.52 as USB standalone install. And it doesn't go there by default. But both my laptop and desktop installs do though. I don't run any extensions at all. I thought both installs I have a pretty basic. Default skin, no special user.js, nothing unique that I think of.

Anyway, not changing anything for now.
I like the look and if you look at the screen-shot they have separate buttons now for:
1. Small screen,
2. Large Screen,
3. Full screen.
So now if you are in Full screen, you choose to go directly out to small screen or to large screen. Small feature, but kind of cool.

If anybody wants to try it I think I found a way. I google for youtube.com/guide and it comes up, but of course you still can't use it.

But it has a cached version that does let you see the interface.

A friend of mine has the new favicon too (just the icon though) and he doesn't use Opera. It's probably a new design they'll be rolling out soon.

The home page and the favicon look like they were taken straight from http://www.youtube.com/cosmicpanda. The video page looks like it's using Cosmic Panda's buttons.

Captain Obvious' conclusion: They must be rolling elements of that interface out now.

ETA: This is actually pretty exciting to me. Seems like Google is moving YouTube out of 2008 and into the HTML 5 and CSS 3 future.

Looks like they posted some info about the "New" look. Not sure how you enable it though.

http://www.youtube.com/t/home

http://www.youtube.com/t/channels

This is the page that comes up for me:

http://www.youtube.com/guide

It comes up now on Chrome, FF, IE etc, but doesn't look "New" other than on Opera on my Laptop and Desktop. Weird. They add some new way to size videos which is cool. I like the new look. Youtube works much better overall in Opera now.

Ok, I figured out how to enable it.

1. Go to Youtube.com

2. Right click on the page and go to "Edit Site Preferences"

3. Go to the Cookies tab.

4. Find the cookie that says something about "VISTOR_INFO" and probably has a bunch of numbers in it.

5. Select it and hit edit.

6. In the "Value" field delete what is in there and paste in "ST1Ti53r4fU" (without the quotes smile )

7. Refresh the page.

You have the new Youtube look to test out.

The new YouTube look rolled out for me this morning and although it looks good, when I'm logged in there's a list of people I'm subscribed to plus YouTube recommends down the left side dark gray section that can't be clicked on. The only to access them now, or the "Load more videos" at the bottom of my welcome page is to mask as Internet Explorer. sad

Because You Tube has changed the look of its pages,(the gray background helps instead of blaring white space)And they added the Favicon.
If you have an account with them there is a difference too regardless of Browser used.

This has already been answered if you read the thread.

As said, Opera only displayed a difference (at first); regardless being logged into my account on Chrome.

Oh excuse me, I did click on their two blogs, but there was no mention of a site-redesign. I will admit, I'm not good at this webdesign field so it made me frantic at first. I thought I did something, or maybe the Opera browser was buggy (just installed that day). I thought I was being proactive by creating this topic. I think there are more important issues to keep "up to date" with.

That link you posted is funny, because I am reading many unhappy users, and a lot of agree with them according to the "# of # people found this answer helpful." posted just below each post. I just want to make it clear, the site design itself doesn't bother me.. just the thought that I could have been seeing something completely different than 99% of the users.

Now excuse me, I have a 1jzgte twin turbo motor to finish rebuilding.

Yes, the "Show uploads only" on Youtube doesn't work
Youtube is essential when browsing the internet.
This needs to be fixed, fast.

Well i found out the Youtube Bar on the left side doesnt work when you got ADBlock enabled.
Disable it and everything works perfectly...

But then you have tons of ADs and stuff...don't know which option is better.
