Opera 6.5.2 unusable for the following reasons

1. It's now a right-centric application. Settings is located next to the main menu. Why? That's probably the most infrequent menu. Application should have a way to make it left/right handed (I'm actually both, but more right hand dominant). The Bookmarks page which is what I use the most is clear across the other side of the screen. If there is a way to arrange the menu, I'd be grateful. This is just like MS Word. File on the left and the options on the right-most side of the screen. Stupid.

2. The screen seems to be cluttered with huge junk. The address bar is huge when it doesn't have to be as big as 1/3 the screen. The Menu items are huge too.

3. The biggest problem is the zoom. One tap needs to bring it to a specific level which would be user selected. Now I have to spend multiple seconds holding the zoom button to see anything on the page. I don;t really like the zoom in/zoom out buttons as they are. They should have some transparency. I do like the variable zoom, but I dislike having to use it for every webpage. A single tap should be enough to get the 1st level of visibility.

I don't think I can use it. I've been an avid user for many years. Now the built-in browser is better. Not good.

Phone: Motorola Backflip, Andriod

PS: I've had issues with previous versions (maybe 5 times total) where Opera would have to be deleted and re-installed. The symptoms were, that Opera would not start. It would just hang. Removing the battery had no effect.

When I do that, I loose all my bookmarks. Is there anyway to delete the application, but not the bookmarks? You cannot re-install the application without deleting it.

To restore bookmarks you might activate Opera Link. Bookmark will be synced to server, and when reinstalled, activate it again, and you get you bookmarks back.

You can double-tap to zoom in to the text column width, so you often don't need to use variable zoom. I hope that helps smile

Kevin:

Then wouldn't it make MORE SENSE to make double-tap bring up the variable zoom and single tap do the next column width?

Your just like the stupid CAD programs where you have to shift to draw a line at 30, 45, 90, 180 etc. Why can't straight be the default?

Thanks. I'll try that.

Has anyone had issues where they had to remove Opera and re-install because it ceased to work?

In general, a no start condition in Mini is related to how you exit. Mini doesn't like being "killed", so always use "menu>exit", and synch your bookmarks using Operalink. smile

Not all versions of Opera Mini have an Exit button--the Android version does not. It is recommended not to exit or kill applications in Android, rather let Android handle it. If the OP is using a task killer app it could be causing problems.

No task killer that I know of, but the lack of an EXIT button for opera is strange.

Android crashes very occaisionally on me, but usually when the phone rings. It recovers from that, but sometimes the phone won't stop ringing. Android doesn't have a re-boot option either.

What about powering off? Does Android stop all aps gracefully?

Since I've installed this version Opera mini, my bookmarks are acting strange. The seemed to work initially.

Now, i can access the Bookmarks menu and manage bookmarks, but tapping or double tapping will not open the bookmark. Holding and "Open in new Tab" will. Is this how it's supposed to work?

my initial install of Opera Mini would always open, but sometimes crashed when I would click on a link (not always the same link) and not at other times.

I uninstalled it(OM), and reinstalled it after two days (from the same installer) and it has worked perfect since then, with the exception of being able to submit forms on craigslist.org (any city or state)....

Now I can browse craigslist postings for hours and not fear it crashing the browser...

Before I upgraded to 6.5, after clicking on 4-20 links on a page would shift link destinations 2-5 places either up or down.

6.5 seems to have cured that, but I still can't post any ads/articles on craigslist...

No idea why I had to reinstall to solve the crashing problem when clicking random links, but it did resolve that problem.

Perhaps the OP might just not have a perfect install yet? There are a bunch of models of phones and other variabilities that could cause instability.
