Opera freqently "not responding"

29 or so tabs open, including several video pages. Opera 11.52, build 1100. Windows XP/SP3. 1GB memory. When this is happening, my task manager tells me I have 1000000 K+ memory available, with CPU usage averaging ~40-50%. Page Files total 79744K with 42080K paged. I have page filing set to "system managed".

Navigation yields program hangs and is shown on task manager as "not reponding".

The best solution so far has been to close Opera and restart.

Solutions anyone?

Just wait a while. Opara fails to keep the gui refreshed when launching plugins like flash.

"Wait a while" isn't a satisfactory option, as that's the problem. It's very annoying.

Well, It isn't. Your right.
But it doesn't freeze for longer then 20 seconds most of the time. (right here on my laptop)

If it does, there is something else troubling opera. Hard disk acces queue or high processor activity.
An Antivirus suite scanner incoming data where opera is waiting for.

Could be anything.

By the way, 29 tabs is a lot. I guess opera tries writing some cache data to hard drive instead of ram memory with this much active tabs.
Because you say you have only 125 MB ram left... (== 1000000 K)

That's about right, but I find that unacceptable.

I'm starting to think, more and more, that my system is just too out-of-date regarding hardware. I understand that the world keeps moving forward. Computer programs are written for current operating systems and faster CPUs, greater standard memory configurations, etc. It's just that I cannot afford to do much about that right now. Therefore, the hope that something can be done besides spending money on the problem.

I can't argue with that (see above). I flit about a lot and eventually get around to bookmarking, but leave tabs open as a visual reminder to get back to certain topics.

A local computer store (mostly used stuff) with a huge internet sales operation says they can't give used memory away, and brought out a box of it. I am willing to help them! Let's see if that helps ....

Thanks for the input.

Gates law, “The speed of software halves every 18 months.”.
See the TabVault extension, it might help you wink

And, used memory can be perfect. If same speed and latency. And heavily tested.
This is a lot of work, making it a work intensive business for the store.
