Sent mail gathering in the outbox but not being sent
Hi, I'm new to this forum thing so please excuse my inexperience. All of a sudden when I go to send an e-mail, instead of being sent, it just appears in the outbox and doesn't get sent. Still receiving mail as usual from my e server. Any suggestions?micheloff

I had a similar problem, Opera mail working fine for months, then, sudden onset, outgoing gathering in outbox, inbox working fine. I searched on my error message and found an old 2004 post about ISP settings blocking outgoing to third party mail servers to reduce spam.
I changed my outgoing mail server from my mail account server to my ISP's server and now my mail goes out, I still don't know if it was what I did or something unknown actually worked.
My error message was:
"Sending e-mail failed. Maybe the SMTP server is not set up properly? E-mail queued"

micheloff,
of course you can do it !!
Email or phone your Internet Service Provider, tell them your problem and that you want to use its mail server and you want the outgoing SMTP server address, or visit its website and find out the address for its "outgoing mail SMTP server"
Then click on the "Tools" tab in your Opera screen.
Click on "Mail and Chat Accounts".
Highlight the email account you're having troubles with, if you're not a big user then probably there's only one.
Click on "Edit" on the right hand side
Click on "Servers" in the tabs across the top.
Type in the address of your ISP's outgoing mail server in the "Server" box under the "Outgoing SMTP server" area (the Incoming POP Server is the top section). You might like to write down all of the settings on the screen just in case you want to go back to those settings anytime in the future.
You'll probably need to click on "Authentication" and set it to "None"
Make sure that the TLS box isn't checked.
And there you have everything that I did.
Have a go. Your outgoing mail isn't working now, so you haven't got a lot to lose !!

Thanks so much for your help. My one big question is who is my Internet Service Provider when I'm using different means to connect. I use a router in the house sometimes, sometimes virgin mobile broadband, other times different wi fi connections in different places. So who exactly would be my provider? Sorry for such a basic question, but like I say a lot of this is Greek to me.
Much Thanks
Much Thanks
micheloff
if you use a router at home, then I assume you must have a contract with an ISP that your router connects to, via ADSL or similar, and if you connect to Virgin mobile you presumably have a contract with Virgin Mobile, so either of them should have an outgoing SMTP mailserver that you could use.
If the problem is an ISP not wanting to allow mail to go through its system to a third party mailserver (and the reason I heard was to try and reduce Spam going through their system) then it shouldn't happen with any of your wifi connections because they will always have people sending to third party servers and the wifi ISP should happily send on through your ISP's SMTP server.
