Close Right Tabs, Close Left Tabs, tab context menu

In Firefox, using an extension called Tab Mix Plus, when one right-clicks on a tab, besides the command "close other tabs", there are commands for "close right tabs" and "close left tabs".

I don't see anything liek that in Opera, neither built-in, nor with an extension like in FF. (Correct me if I am wrong.)

I would like to see that command in the tab context menu in Opera. Preferably built-in. not needing an extension.

Thank you

A duplicate of many previous threads. this one is still on the first page.

Its already possible by using the Windows Panel.

To close all tabs to the right: Ctrl click on the next tab in the Windows panel, shift click on the last, right click to close them all.

Thanks. I will try that.

However, I still think it would be simpler to do it from the tab context menu itself. Close all other tabs is there, it would be good if close right tabs and close left tabs were also there.

Furthermore, the Windows panel does not only show the tabs open in the current window, but in all other open windows as well.

Then its even more useful than a context menu item would be — you can close other windows as well as other tabs.

Pesala, I see from your various post that you're a vigorous opponent of allowing close Right/Left Tabs on the grounds that 1.There are alternatives available 2.It would clutter the context menu

All the alternatives you suggest take more steps to do than simply putting another command within the context menu. This makes sure that an individual will not use the methods you have suggested even if they are available(I tried getting used to it, but IMHO it is a clumsy method of doing something very basic). While adding another button will increase the amount of clutter as you say - Why not let the users decide if they want or do not want the clutter ! Add an option in the preferences giving the user the option of having such a button. If a user is savvy enough to find the preference and change it, he will likely not be bothered by the 'clutter' it causes. Conversely, a simple housewife in her mid 50s will not mess with the preferences and thus will get Opera as it is without the clutter. It might be hard for the dev team to add this option, but seeing that it is being demanded enthusiastically by so many users, I'd suggest that they find a way to give it to the consumers.

We don't need options for menus, they are already customisable, and this Feature Request asks for the extra items by default, which is why I object to it.

If users want to add more items to their menus they already can — I did, but I also removed a lot more to make space for "Copy Address" and "Rename Tab." I removed "Copy Address" from the document popup menu.

If a command can be added to close all right/left tabs then users can define the menus as they wish. I would have no problem with that if it can be done. A new command would have no affect on the current menus.

You may wonder why I object to changing the default setup, since I use a custom setup anyway. I object because the menus are already too complex for new users and need to be streamlined, not bloated even more.

For closing tabs right of current tab, you could use my new extension: https://addons.opera.com/pl/addons/extensions/details/close-tabs-right-of-current/0.1/
I was also looking for this functionality, so I at last managed some time to do it. It's simple and limited by Opera Tabs API, but it works wink

It may be more useful, but also more complicated and time-consuming.

Not criticizing the Windows panel, I think it is a cool feature. But IMO it does not at all substitute for what I suggested. Apples and oranges.

I think there may be a misunderstanding here. I was not referring to adding a button, nor a command to the regular menus.

Just that when one right-clicks on a tab, it is useful to have the "close other tabs" option, and is also similarly useful (as it is in my FF setup) to have the choice "Close Right Tabs", and "Close Left Tabs". Those are three very simple and quick ways to close a lot of tabs at once. If you only want the current tab to remain open, then "Close Other Tabs". However, you might also prefer to close all the tabs to the right or left of that tab

I think it is totally wrong to say that would complicate usage for a new user. Not at all. Those three commands for closing groups of tabs, are completely obvious in meaning, and need no explanation.

It is not something "bloated" at all, but two very simple commands which would be very useful when one right-clicks on a tab.

I'm going to add a new extension, which will bring up 2 buttons - closing to the left and to the right (and with less ugly icon wink) stay tuned!

Hi everyone,

Vote in the poll to try and get this feature included in Opera by default (without need for an extension):
