.epub bug

When downloading an .epub file ( an eBook ), Opera 11.52 on Windows 7 inexplicably converts it to a .zip file and messes it up thoroughly. The .zip file will not work in my calibre eReader. IE and Firefox download the file correctly. I have filed a bug report with Opera.

Did you tried to change the file extension of that file back to epub from zip?

Its not a bug with Opera, but the web site is not configured correctly to send the right MIME type.

Just rename the file with the correct extension and it will open normally.

This test file on my site will do the same. It opens fine in Calibre E-book viewer after renaming from *.zip to *.epub.

If I wanted to host epubs on my site, I would have to modify .htaccess to support them.
AddType application/epub+zip .epub

Edit: Now I have done it, and the file opens in Calibre. After checking "Remember choice" it now opens directly in Calibre without showing the dialogue.

I'm having the same issue. I can open the site on Chrome and it will download as a epub file just fine. So it would seem that site is working. I am working right now on a netbook with Windows 7 starter while my main computer is in the shop. It's frustrating to have to open chrome just to download in a usable form without having to open callibre every time.

Also, I can't figure out how you change the name from .zip to .epub.

Thanks for the help.

Just rename the extension when you download it using "Save Linked Content As..." or rename it in Windows Explorer. (If extensions are hidden in Windows Explorer, you may need to show them).

Thanks I'll try that. It had to look up how to turn show extensions on and once I found and fix that I used the save as and it worked perfectly. Thanks so much for you help. The learning curve on a new program can be frustrating and I appreciate you quick help.
