Duplicated Emails Received in Opera Mail

Could someone please advise why all of a sudden I am receiving in my Opera Mail, duplicate copies of emails received in my Gmail, Yahoo and Virgin mail accounts?

Never happened before but in the past couple of months I am receiving so many emails as I am receiving them twice?

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you smile

Hi,

I have the same problem with emails from my gmail account used via IMAP.
Could this be a problem linked to the use of gmail on a smart phone (IMAP push-mail) in parallel to the Opera mail setup?
I recall that the duplicate email issue started when I started to use an android phone with gmail.
Any ideas on that and how to solve the issue?

Thanks!

Hi again,

I found an acceptable solution, although it might not resolve the underlying cause of duplicate mails. In Opera Mail, if you open the view "Received", on the top right of the window click on the symbol "settings for this view" > "Show" and remove the check from "Show Duplicates". At least then the duplicate messages are not displayed anymore, which is acceptable to me. It remains unclear to me, how to resolve the issue in the first place leading to the duplicates. Also, why is "Show Duplicates" check by default? - I would set it the opposite way.

Hope that helps some of you...

Hi! This might sound obvious, but are you sure you're not forwarding email to your My Opera account, and also have it set up as a linked account? This could cause each message to arrive twice!

If you are sure this is not the case, next time you see a duplicate arrive, please open each message and go to "Message Actions" -> "Show raw message", and save the two as a text file. Email those two files to me, and I'll take a look.
Please do not email me directly unless requested to do so. Thanks!

Hi Marian,

Thanks for your reply. I do not use the "My Opera" email account. It is about email accounts set up in the Opera Mail program. So there is no "Message actions" in Opera Mail, however, I looked at the "View all Headers and Message" raw data and the data (header and message) in both duplicate emails is identical, i.e. I could not find any clue on whether one of the messages was forwarded or re-routed from another server. Plus, since that happens for many emails (from different senders) it is not an issue with a specific sending server.
Any thoughts on that?

My apologies smile This is the forum for Opera's web-based clients (confusing, I know!).
I've moved this thread to the appropriate forum. I hope someone there can help you!

Hi,
I think I found the cause of my issues with duplicate emails from my gmail account in the Opera Mail client.
It has to do with the way the IMAP folders from gmail are linked to the Opera Mail client. I saw that in my case I subscribed to the IMAP "INBOX" folder as well as to the IMAP folder "[Gmail]/Important", this apparently is not such a good choice. Subscribing to the folder "[Gmail]/Important" created the duplicates, because all emails were intepreted as to be labeled as important and then shown in the "Received" folder of All Messages in the Opera Mail client. This happened also with emails that were not actually labeled as important in the Gmail webmail client. Simply unsubscribing from the "[Gmail]/Important" or a similar [Gmail]/* input-folder in other cases seems to solve the problem.

That's just a bug in Opera for "[Gmail]/Important" and any new IMAP folder your create. Opera doesn't have "hide these messages from other views" set for them by default. See <http://my.opera.com/operawiki/forums/topic.dml?id=1161772> for a workaround. In the case of "Important", you can just unsubscribe from that one. But, if it's another folder that you created that's more important, you'd still want to fix that folder.

If you fix that, you won't even need to uncheck "show duplicates".

But, also see <http://operawiki.info/GmailIMAP>.
