"You appear to be on a slow network" - but I'm not, really!
Opera frequently shows me this message popping up in the lower right hand corner: "You appear to be on a slow network. Enable Opera Turbo to speed up browsing."Now, I know how to turn that off (and I did) but I was just wondering, why does it keep saying this while I'm at a blazing fast, steady, 120mbit rock solid fiber connection? Mind ye, no other PCs are connected, I'm not downloading anything or running other software that generates traffic, I'm not using wireless, and when I actually do download stuff or open webpages it's very fast.
Anyone else noticed this too? I'm not really troubled by this myself, just wanted to mention there may be something wrong with the network speed detection.
Yes, I have noticed this. But I only have a 256 kbps connection (but that's still considered a good speed connection - atleast in my country; India) so I don't know whether the Norwegians call it OK speed or slow speed.
But for people having a fast Internet connection and still receiving the "You appear to be on a slow network" message is because of a bug in Opera -
"DSK-346757 Opera Turbo slow network notification is triggered even for high speed connections"
This bug is fixed in Opera 11.60 development snapshots(the bugfix was in this snapshot) and once Opera 11.60 is released - you will no longer experience this after you upgrade to 11.60.
