mobile safari asks for opera mini update instead of loading page
Hello,Just recently, our website (http://www.ethicinc.com) became inaccessible by Safari on iPad/iPhone. There have previously been no issues loading the site on any mobile device.
The reason I am in this forum is because instead of loading our site, Safari redirects to a page that says "Warning, Opera Mini is out of date, upgrade to 6.5" The url for that page is enminiopera.j-oo.com/?r=5684.
This is mystifying for several reasons; it started happening all of a sudden; I don't use Opera Mini as a browser; Opera Mini is not even installed on my iPad. I have searched the web and these forums and can't find any reference or example of this happenig. Can anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks.

Does your site sniff for browsers and is that page (the page you are redirected to) hosted on your site?
If so, the sniffing mechanism is wrong. You may want to test out your site with the online Opera Mini demo on your PC at http://opera.com/developer/tools/mini/. Note the demo uses Java runtime so you will need to have that installed. Also, I too get the warning and is pushed the Opera Mini update. However, I am using the latest version of the browser.

Hi. No, our page does not sniff for browsers - we have optimised everything via CSS so it looks good across browsers. And, the page that it redirects to is not hosted by us. I'm starting to suspect we've been compromised and that page/redirect is some hack or something - it reloads itself after several seconds and wants to download a file called "Opera_Mini.jar". Also, the url is all wrong - enminieopera.j-oo.com doesn't seem offical.
I haven't yet been able to trace what's causing the redirect. I downloaded Opera mini to my ipad and it also redirects to this "warning" page when I try to open my site.
Thanks for the online demo suggestion. I'll try that and see what comes up.
EDIT: The online demo does the same thing.

So somebody is sniffing the browser. Either you or your service provider (hosting service) is sniffing the browser.
There is sniffing somewhere (I think).
Hmmm weird. Apparently the site is flagged by Microsoft SmartScreen filter as unsafe.

I used Internet Explorer and changed my user agent string to that of Opera Mini. I got redirected to the site. To change the User Agent String of Internet Explorer see my blog post at http://my.opera.com/wikipedian/blog/2011/05/18/change-user-agent-string-in-ie9. Note: Only works with Internet Explorer 9. Also, I have no idea how to change the user agent string of the Opera browser or Firefox. I only know how to change the UA (user agent) string of Internet Explorer 9 .
This is Opera Mini 9.5 user agent string: Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/6.5.27460/26.1235; U; en) Presto/2.8.119 Version/10.54
Edit: Try tracing the process. The redirection seems to happen as soon as the page loads so I think there is some sniffing on your page. Check your codes closely. Also, try this: try recoding your index.htm (or index.html) page or blanking it. See if the redirection happens.

We've figured it out. Our site was hacked into apparently and someone rewrote our .htaccess file with a large list of RewriteCond and at the very bottom was a RewriteRule that forced that flagged page above to load. We deleted the htaccess file and everything is back to normal now. Next on the list, improving security.
I appreciate all of your help. Sorry to take up any "real" Opera discussion time with this spoofed page.

No problem. Always glad to help. Plus, I am NOT an Opera employee, just a user like you. I hang out in the forum to help whoever's in need.
