Nigerians Can Break Into The Most Secured Security System
Call it talent, genius, evil or whatever;but Nigerians, have for ages, proven to the greatest technologist, security expert, the weakness behind anything they've made. From breaking through the most complex airport security system,to websites with unimagined firewall system,to the most secured software system. Just mention it. Nigerians have got this notion that technologgy should be free for all. For network providers in the country, their systems have been hacked to the point that youngsters make free calls, browse for free send free messages and even deceive the network systems to extort call credits, promo gifts, browsing megabytes and lots more. Nigerians have launched websites dedicated to sharing tweaks meant to crack anything secured. Don't be suprised if a Nigerian breaks into the white house undetected6. December 2011, 22:46:34 (edited)
Next time you're complaining of dropped calls or poor service consider it's due to the criminals stealing network access. The revenue generated could of went to upgrading service and infrastructure. Instead you think it's clever to steal from a sub-par telecommunications industry, have fun with that.

Apology accepted.
However there is an escape route where many of us have gathered to avoid Armagedon:
see The DnD Sanctuary for gaming, for discussions on Browsers or anything in particular, and just Lounging about.
There's this bank with your money in it. You wanna be able to know your money is there safe and get it when you want, right? Okay, say someone come up with a way to access your account whenever they want and take your money in such a way they can do it whenever they want undetected so they don't even have to take it all at once, just when they want some. Now say you went to get some money and it was unavalible because someone else was accessing your account at the moment. You'd be mad right? When you ask for some action to be taken they tell you, "So many people are doing it their security can't catch up and besides it's kinda clever so what's the harm? Even people who don't do it think money should be for everyone and we can't afford to safe guard what you pay the bank to do so we just try and get as many accounts as possible hoping some will actually pay."
In this hypothetical situation where data is money, where is the line? Isn't condoning it bad too? Is adding account after account offering a service you can't provide bad?
Data provided by a carrier is worth something because it takes infrastructure to provide it and paying customers are told there is bandwidth for the data they pay for... but not told so many people are just stealing it they can't really provide the service or hope to stop it. If you believe data should be free then take action to have the government provide it like civilized folk, now that would be clever. Otherwise taking and enabling it is criminal and not anything to be proud of, IMO.

Why not find some technological achievements by Nigeria that can match or exceed something the US, the EU, Japan or S. Korea can do? Let's face it, most people have only heard if Nigeria 411 scams and not technological achievements from the country. Perhaps it's time to point achievements from Nigeria that were picked up on countries generally considered more advanced instead of your ability to run a brute force attack to get passwords or set up some kind DDoS attack (which is trivial). Some people prefer viewing things with their ears. The post was meant to draw a reader's attention to that black african country. With no IT knowledge and little formal education, they are still able to go Pro with technological gadgets. The question is,can't that level of affinity and efficiency in a techno-age fetch them legitimate employment? Is the government blind to the presence of these active cells inclined to telling the geeks they have not done enough in concealing the secrets behind their most complex inventions. For pete's sake, the bigwigs need to sell their attention to these group and stop selling lies and frail promises.

You have done nothing but depict your countrymen as a bunch of criminals. The only employment I can think of to give to career criminals is converting large rocks into smaller rocks. For a long time.
Sorry, but around my neck of the woods we already have a surplus of career criminals, don't need any more.

I wonder if those kids making free calls and using free data on the telcos in Nigeria are helping to overload the country's limited capacity. Personally, I'd be pissed if I was a legitimate customer experiencing poor network performance and kids were stealing bandwidth.

You're contributing to the strength of your economy by using good ethics. Paying for the services you receive gives the company revenues to grow, producing jobs for these would-be engineers, network techs, and programmers. Also the quality of service would increase as a result too. I am wondering if they have full internet service or are they're limited on where they can connect?
Anyway you look at it seems the government should be a little more involved. I live in a country that could afford to but thinks war is more important than any real healthcare so I know internet will never be free here. To have a country step up and say people should have a right to information would indeed be an awesome idea. Nigerians CAN achieve great things and that would be a proud step in the right direction. But your methodology is a little messed up. Good ethics help grow the economy and educational levels. And will improve your quality of living way more than however much your data use is a month extra in your pocket ever will. Making Nigeria not only an African power but perhaps a global player.
But hey, I'm also an idealist at heart. You can also steal your economy into shambles and live in a third world country, if ya want. That's what we're trying to do here.
Edit: damn autocorrect

So far, all you have done is to champion criminal activity and make it appear as if all Nigerians are criminals. If we take you at your word, the proper response is to build a wall around Nigeria, complete with guard towers and dogs running in a no-man's land between fences. Just about the only positive thing I can come up with in regard to these 1337 h4xx0rz is something like "at least they're not destroying anything." Nah, John is just one of the many-- we are legion-- who are tired of common street thugs boasting like they're really something when they're not. You go to an Internet Cafe, steal some stuff from IT suppliers and write 419 scam letters and you think you're the sharpest tack in the box. Nope, not even close.
Edit; add-on: Personally, I got a little tired of reading stories on this side of the pond where hacker/crackers broke laws, pilfered stuff from secure systems and so on, and then later got jobs as white-hat computer security consultants. These guys were crooks--- and deserved to be treated the way we treat crooks when they get caught. No white-hat job for you, matey!!! You see that pile of big rocks over there? There's an important difference between hackers and crackers. Hackers find holes and notify the administrators; crackers (ab)use them. The first is illegal in the same sense that looking at child porn online is illegal (depending on your jurisdiction), but some people do just that in order to find and report sites that host such trash. I realize you explicitly said "pilfered stuff from secure systems," but I know someone who gets paid to do just that and they certainly didn't do any such thing.

Only 9GB? I probably use that much only in YouTube. (I don't mean I watch it for hours and hours; I just tend to pick 720p if available.)
Sadly my monthly usage counter just reset, so I couldn't say what I used last month. Today, however, 1.2GB was already used and I wasn't even home most of the day (i.e. most of that must've been by my wife who was home most of the day).
total traffic downloaded in broadband: 1.16 gb
(traffic downloaded between 01.00 and 13.00 is only counted for 50%)
remaining in broadband: 58.84 gb
next counter reset : 21/01/2012 (days remaining: 31)
broadband graphical overview:
actual traffic info: over the past accountingperiod counted traffic is 1.16 gb. this number does not reflect mediumbandtraffic and actual happyhours traffic. it also does not show the 10% atm-overhead on the actual transfer of your line nor the 0 gb uploadtraffic. therefor the real traffic that was transferred was 1.6 gb. (this data is provided for informational purposes only)
Note that the penalty for going over it merely means getting my connection downsized to 2Mbit or so. That's one major reason for choosing this provider over one that does something ludicrous like charging money like crazy.
60GB (download only; unlimited upload) usually suffices, but using decent quality video & audio combined with not having any interest in "regular" TV and radio has made us go over now and then.

You must watch more than we do, or higher quality/worse compression.
But like I said, it's not 60GB in a manner that it matters much. I'd pay the same money if they advertised it as 6Mbit unlimited download/upload as opposed to a theoretical maximum speed of 24Mbit with 60GB download volume/unlimited upload, where exceeding 60GB means a drop to 6Mbit — and don't forget traffic from 1AM to 1PM only counts half, so in practice we tend to hit at least 80GB before this happens. Yeah, that's what I found in a few seconds, but didn't want to post myself. It sounds like Keloda and his ilk are just following instructions on sites like that and thinking they're master hackers and giving them the delusion that they possess more knowledge than they really do.

What do you mean he "just slipped"? He did the same thing at least twice. I'm not saying it's particularly impressive or anything, considering I almost got onto a flight to Detroit instead of to Chicago because the silly people at MSP decided to flip the two adjacent gates just around boarding time, and besides, we're talking about petty crime once more, but it counts as beating airport security to get on a flight.

Some of us do actually have PCs. The article basically says what I did. You have to create jobs for them and if you are not paying for services that you receive from a company that can provide these jobs then you are helping cause the problem you're complaining about. I'm sure there are other factors but hey, you have a chance to do your part... Why don't you? Until then you're just another hypocrite trying to act like you're being 'forced' to steal and it's somehow morally justified.

You're honest? Then that makes you a weird duck for sure; an honest man who champions street-thugs.
About not being as smart as: I point out that I'm not the one who posted that opening post that brags on Nigerian criminals. For that matter, I don't brag about how smart Chicago thugs are either. Should we discuss these things? Maybe-- but I guarantee that most criminals won't get high marks on boards like these. Committing crimes will sooner or later get you caught, tried, possibly convicted--- and when all of that goes down, your future is toast from then on.
Right now, Nigerian criminals have succeeded in making Nigeria the laughingstock of the Internet. First thing most people think of when you say "Nigeria", what do you think it is? "Hello, I'm General Scamu, and I need to hide several million dollars in your bank account. I need your banking information, then I will send the money and you can have a share". Now, personally, I don't think that's something to brag on, but if you do--- whatever floats your boat. Just don't think you're going to get much in the way of brownie points for thinking that.

There are countless ways someone can make legitimate use of talents in the technological field. Creating apps for phone's, clever web services or useful web pages. But when all you are known for is criminal activity then people aren't going to trust even the legitimate ones because the criminals are messing it up fir them. A Nigerian could write the most useful app on the planet and have it not trusted because all the criminals aren't clever enough to use their talents for constructive purposes. There's nothing uber clever about avoid detection and security only to get caught somewhere down the line. Where was his exit strategy? Criminal activities are not clever because in the end you end up caught. It's only a matter of time. You are promoting dishonest behavior (tho now you seem to be inferring you weren't) when you should be promoting using skills for legitimate goals. It's childish to attack everyone who has tried to point this out to you because you wanna believe your country man have some unmatched talent when in fact they are doing NOTHING original and in most cases seem to steal the methods they use to steal things. LMAO! How redundantly ignorant do you have to be to continue to support criminal activity as some sort of badge of pride?
