Indeed you are. Just open the Bookmarks panel, ctrl + click on each bookmark, or shift + click to select a range, and press the delete key.
Bookmarks can also be removed from the menu one at a time with right-click then delete.

Pesala is probably referring to the sidebar, which you get at on a Windows machine with F4. I can't help you with the Mac issue either, on a Windows machine however you can definitely bring that up with F4, then hold down CTRL and click on each bookmark you want to select, and then hit the DEL button on the keyboard to get rid of them (or specifically, move them into the Trash folder in the bookmarks.)
A more thorough look at the bookmarks can be had in the Bookmark Manager; findable in the browser menus (again, on a Windows box) under Opera, Bookmarks, Manage Bookmarks.
Any bookmarks you can see in the menu are in the bookmarks somewhere. I'm pretty sure that's true for the Mac version as well, and I can't imagine you would have to directly edit the .adr file.
