11.60 start-up dialog buttons too small

Every time I install an update to Opera, I do it with fear.
Fear that they screwed something again, made counter-productive changes, in the name of chromization and firefoxization.
I was not wrong again.

But this is something I can not understand: the start-up dialog (asking whether I want to go to the speed dial, or continue last session, etc.) have become much smaller in 11.60, with very hard to click small buttons.
It happens in XP and Win7.

WHY?

Was that by accident, and will be fixed, or it's a part of "deemphasizing" a feature, that is, making it hard to use?

I fail to see why the buttons are too small to click.

My guess is that it was done to suit netbooks and other devices with small screens.

The 11.52 window was 408 pixels high. The 11.60 is 358 pixels high. I don't think there are any netbooks with screens smaller than that.
Even windows Start menu is bigger.

This is from Opera 11.52

and this is from Opera 11.60

The new window looks overcrowded (and with your enlarged fonts it looks plain wrong) and is unnecessarily hard to use.

The most important element, the "Start" button, is now the smallest one. This is nonsense.

Opera, please revert this change.

so glad somebody posted about this.

it's not even centered anymore to the window - it's off to one side.

would gladly welcome pre 11.60 behaviour

So it is. It shows on the left side of my screen here.
Never had that problem before.

Yep, same here. Wish it would come up in the middle of the screen like it used to.

Likewise here also...it's not a major issue but if like me you'll become frustrated at continually
dragging it to centre of screen with the hope it will stay there...smile

I have the same problem with this version and Opera-Next in Windows and Linux...

The important thing everyone is forgetting here is that in previous versions this window was resizable and movable. I have about 10 sessions stored for choosing at startup so I had resized the window to be taller (and wider) and manually centered. Opera would remember this setting on subsequent restarts. It no longer does this. It resets to a tiny window over on the left side every time.

Please fix.

The fact that the dialogue is small and does not remember its size is an issue, but that's not what this thread was about. It was about the buttons beeing too small to click, which they are clearly not.

The dialogue being off-centre is trivial. How many of you choose to show the startup dialogue anyway?

I only ever see it if Opera crashes — then I just click on OK.

it may seems trivial 'Pesala' but as you can see it is of some importance to some users...
same can be said about many 'reported' issues within Opera don't you think ?
but I do take your point about the thread not being about this problem to start with.

Might be trivial to you but it really, really bugs the crap out of me. And I chose to show the start up dialogue.

Everyone thinks that their pet bug is more important than it really is. Try to be objective and professional:JIRA Priorities

Minor — Minor loss of function or other problem where there is an easy work-around
Trivial — Cosmetic problem like mispelt words or misaligned text.

The dialogue being off centre is a trivial issue — not even a minor one. Even not remembering the dialogue size barely qualifies as a minor issue since no functionality has been lost, its just slightly less convenient if you have a lot of sessions.

If the dialogue being off centre "bugs the crap out of you" then you're obviously full of crap, so it will do you good.

Of course, even minor and trivial bugs should be fixed — no one is saying they should be ignored, and they are not — but its pot luck which minor bugs gets fixed first. The latest build of Opera Next is still the same.

Too much said by you buddy! Somebody who is bugged as hell by a dialogue that's off centre is full of crap. That is being objective. It would be "professional" to file the bug, and post the bug number. End of story..

lol...you totally missed the point....not anywhere have I stated that it bugged the hell out of me...smile
frustrating yes but not a deal breaker for me...and as far as saying too much well take a look in the mirror sometime...
I just love people that are legends in their own mind.

lol..file the bug...as if it actually make a difference...you can read through pages and pages of people still waiting for bugs to be ironed
out dating back through so many releases.

can we just lose this issue now...I grow tired of this crap!
if they fix it fine...if not there are plenty of browsers to choose from these days.

If you read my previous post you will see that I quoted rif, not you. Do try to be objective. Reporting bugs is much more likely to get them fixed than making a fuss about them in these forums.

Yes, which is exactly what I was saying. Minor and trivial bugs like these may not get fixed right away.

Originally posted by Mike46:

Yes you can. If it irritates you use "Continue from last time" — then you won't even see the dialogue.
