System resources usage

I am just back to Opera after few years, and want to compare Opera and Chrome. I notice that Opera uses more memory than Chrome on my macbook. Chrome is using around 75MB, meanwhile Opera starts at 90MB and increase to 140MB when opening more tabs.

The same issue with CPU amount. When Chrome idles, 0 CPU usage. But Opera still utilizes 1.5 approximately.

So, why should I use Opera, instead of Chrome? smile

large memory usage for opera on my mbp has always been an issue (i'm talking about the last two years).

the latest build on 10.6.8 does indeed look better and feels more refined but after a lengthy session of web browsing, where i may typically open and close dozens and dozens of tabs (prob nearing/past 100?), opera's memory usage is anywhere from 500mb to 1gb or more (rarer occasions). even after all closing tabs and closing with the X (not fully quit), it still retains a large amount (300mb upwards).

now is this normal for opera/other browsers?

i have a 17inch mbp (the very top spec two years ago) and i'm finding it to be quite laggy at times.
