404 page cursor goes where
Type in domain that does not exits, whole address is selected so that you can fix the typo, nice
but
Type in one char wrong (but domain correctly) you see 404 page, but addresbar is not selected, not active or anything.
small fix, suberb time save and wrist pain prevention also

I agree that if the page returns an http error status (not "200 OK" and then some "soft" error page, that's virtually impossible to detect correctly) should have the same result as when the hostname does not resolve.
For all those who want to check this, too: you have to enter the addresses in the address bar, not follow the links
