Saving the last Label structure?
Hi All,What can I do to make Opera save the Label structure that I have open?
I have a bunch of Master (my term) Labels.
Online shopping
Banking
Business
Within those, is a myriad of sub-Labels, sub-sub-Labels, sub-sub-sub etc
I like to have some of the more common Labels open but when I restart Opera I get all the main Labels and their first level sub-Labels listed with any/all sub-sub... collapsed, whether I like it or not.

How can I save the Labels the way I use them?
Thanks

If they don't stay expanded through a restart, then you can't do anything about it (as in, there's no option that controls this or deliberately makes a certain level of nesting collapse).
If you feel it's a bug, file a report and post the bug number here (minus the @... part). You can also mention this thread in the report.
You might want to investigate if it has to do with the width of the panel. Maybe if you make the with really wide, it'll behave a little better.

I suspect it is a bug as I have just now noticed that it doesn't expand the second level for all Master levels. I can't think of why two of the Master levels don't expand if that is supposed to be the process. It is not always the same one or two that don't get expanded.
The Labels often toss an error on closing. Sometimes when I select "New Label" it opens the Edit to assign a new name and other times it just leaves "New Label" and I have to go into Properties and manually change "New Label" to the new name. None of this happens in an repeatable fashion, well not that I can figure out yet.

Seems the Label system is a little buggy still.
Changing widths didn't help either, but thanks for the thought. I had already had the Width set so that all expanded Labels/sub/sub-sub etc were visible, but I made it even wider and still the same.

Thanks. Next time though, try to explain in the report what the problem is even if the thread you link to further explains it. Something like what you wrote in your first post would have been ok.
The Index.Ini file is not being written back on shut down UNLESS changes (New/Edit) are made to the Index.ini -- then the Collapsed/Expanded Status is saved along with the changes.
This is now repeatable. Create this Label structure and shut down Opera...
Business
....Cars
........Body
............Door
Start Opera and the structure will all be visible as we left it with "Door" visible.
Collapse down to just Business showing and shut down.
Start Opera and the fully expanded structure will be visible again with "Door" again visible.
Try that a few times if you like, but really not needed.
Now, Right-click "Business" select "Properties" and change the name to "Business_1" and Close that dialog.
Collapse all down to just "Business_1" and shut down.
Start Opera and the just "Business_1" will be visible.
Soooo, obviously the Index.ini file where the Label details are stored is not being written back after a Collapse/Expand. It is only written back after an edit to one or more Labels. It does not matter which Label you change the name of, it will save the *entire Collapsed/Expanded structure* as it currently is on shut down and reuse that on Start. No edit, no save to the structure changes.
Opera needs to write the Inidex.ini file back to disk on every shut down.

Nope, for several reasons.
1: The developers can read it here and save me the duplication.
2: I spent a good deal of time understanding what was happening.
3: I spent even more time testing and describing a work-around.
4: It's not my job.
5: It is better shown here so that others with similar frustration can see the work-around. Very few people would think to check the bug-list if they have a problem.

That's your choice.

The less they have to do to find out about a problem (including going to some site, even this one), the more they'll be willing to fix it.

Of course, but you want it fixed and it's common here for those that find a bug to report it and update the bug with any new info.

That's of course much appreciated.
I'll take care of any updated info so your issue doesn't get overlooked.
