How To Disable Intallation of New Opera Version

Hi!

I have utilized Opera for nearly six years now, and it has been my default browser since I installed it. I also have Firefox and IE9, but I always use Opera, and only when a website doesn't work well -seldom- do I switch to Firefox. IE9 I sporadically have used for manual windows updates.

I'm using the "dance 'n shout" skin -jungle green- and have only the minimum buttons etc. needed. Plus the integrated Opera mail client, as simple as possible. I like minimalistic.

This new version that just came out completely ruined the mail client for me. I get "double exposure" images of the emails, overlapping each other half way. I can't read the text. Clicking on one to delete it copies it, so then I have two of the same ones. I don't see how I can use this mail client now.

I used a backup to restore my notebook to the previous Opera version, but every time I open Opera a screen to "upgrade" to the latest version appears, only giving the choice to downpoad/install right away, or be reminded later. Of course I always choose the latter.

Is there a way to disable this? Otherwise I will have to click on "Remind me later" forever. And I will, unless this email program gets fixed, and preferably is returned to how it was. Or at least gives us that option. Although fixing the latest one so it doesn't make a total mess of my email client would also be fine.

Sorry to sound so dissatisfied... my apologies. But I am serious: I can't use this.

Maybe I should have the new one installed again, make a screen shot of that I'm talking about, and use the backup again restore my notebook to the previous Opera version again.

I set the update server to localhost in the opera:config page. And I agree it is annoying that it auto updates by default.
If feature X is to be added in the next version of Opera, make sure there is an option to disable feature X.

Thank you.

After disabling the auto-update option yesterday, just now I decided to give the new version one more try. So I made a system backup, and then downloaded-installed it again. Same result: emails overlapping and text mixed and thus unreadable. Incapable of clicking them away. Unless I close the browser. Luckily there were no new emails. I would not know how to answer them now.

I made a screen shot of it, and would like to post it -or make it available- here. But I don't know how to do that.
In the mean time I'll copy that screen shot on a memory stick, and use the backup to restore my notebook to the previous Opera version again.

This is a problem with the mail client depending a bit too much on the skin.

It can be fixed easily by
- switching to standard skin
- editing the skin.ini file inside the skin zip (setting "Fallback background = 1")

... but we should also fix this in the mail client.

PS:
I just contacted Opera with a Bug Report, and send the screen shot as an attachment with the email response I immediately received in reply.

Well organized, this bug reporting. Until now I had only used the "Report problem site" option before. And usually the problem was soon afterward solved. Sometimes even already the next time I visited that site again a day or so later. cool

You mean I cannot "dance 'n shout" with this new Opera mail client? Until the bug is fixed?
Or can I still use it, but only by "editing the skin.ini file inside the skin zip (setting "Fallback background = 1")"?

My "old" version still works perfectly well -as it always has, as well as all the previous ones over the last nearly 6 years since I utilize Opera- so I might as well keep using it. Until the bug in the new one is fixed. Or would be in a next version.

But I'll think about your second suggestion. Thanks for your reply.
