11.6 - sorting messages by sender
In the previous version you were simply able to click on the top headings to sort your messages by sender, date or whatever. In 11.6, I cannot find away to sort by sender!
Yes, you can do a search, but that isn't the same thing.
What mail view mode are you using? "List and message on right", "List and message below" or "List only"?
Click the view button (the wrench icon) on the message toolbar. The settings will be there. Those are the global settings that affect all views. There's another wrench icon with lines next to it that has all the "show" settings and allows you to override the sorting for that view.
If you don't see any of those buttons, goto "ctrl + F12 -> advanced -> toolbars". Switch to the "Opera Standard" menu setup and switch to the "Opera Standard" toolbar setup and recustomize. Also, for good measure, make sure you're using "Opera Standard" in "advanced -> shortcuts". Make sure you're using "Opera Standard" in "shift + f12 -> skins". Also, for extra good measure, click the view button on the mail panel toolbar and reset the mail panel to defaults. And, check the database.
Also, if you don't like the two-line mode in the message list when you have "list and message on the right", you can mess with it at Mail View Two Lined Messages. 0 = off, 2 = always, 1 = two line when using "list and message on the right".

Thank you for the detailed reply burnout426!
I'm using "list & message on right"
I used the wrench settings with the little lines next to it, but it you check "overide default sorting", the drop down does NOT offer a "sort by sender" option. Done the F12 bit, still doesn't allow to sort by sender. Also reset everything I could find to "default".
I can't believe Opera would have left this option out?

Click the wrench icon (the one without the lines next to it) and change the layout to list and message below or list only. Then, click the from column header to sort by it. Then, switch the layout back to "list and message on right". See if that fixes it.
Or, set Mail View Two Lined Messages to 0 and close and reopen any views you have open. Then, you'll see the columns.

But why so complicated? I would never find that out by the UI. It should be an option by the wrench icon.
It's a really advanced setting that users aren't expected to mess with all the time. If they are, then maybe Opera will put it under the wrench icon menu.
