Opera doesn't remember last viewed message anymore

Hi,
I just updated to Opera 11.60 and I noticed that when I browse a folder with mail or feeds and I exit Opera it doesn't remeber the last item I viewed when I open Opera and browse the folder again. It remembers the items last viewed before I updated to 11.60.
Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

Close down Opera and delete autosave.win in the sessions folder. It's in the preferences folder.

Also, check the permissions for index.ini in the mail folder to make sure it's not set to read only.

If that doesn't work, close down Opera and rename operaprefs.ini so that Opera uses a new one.

Also, download the Opera installer and use the "standalone installation" option to install to a folder on you desktop. Setup mail in it (do not import anything, and do not uncheck "leave messags on the server" if you use POP) to see if you can reproduce the problem there. If you can't, replace this Opera's mail folder with a *copy* or your normal mail folder. Then see if you can reproduce. If you can, the problem is in the mail folder.

If all else fails, you may have to do this to fix it. But, you need to try the other things first.

Also, check to make sure anti-virus software isn't interfering with the writing of Opera's files.

I tested this in 11.60 myself and it works fine. But, mine is a fresh install with a new profile.

Unfortunately this didn't solve my problem sad . Maybe I'll have to reinstall Opera but I'm afraid of losing the information in the mail client - sent mail, feeds, labels. Can I backup some files and replace the new ones with them and have everything in the right place? (old sent messages in the sent folder, old feeds in their respective folders etc.) I hope you understand what I mean smile.

What parts? Did you try the standalone installation? It doesn't affect your current install at all.

Not exactly sure what you mean specifically. But, see <http://my.opera.com/operawiki/forums/topic.dml?id=1162442>, <http://my.opera.com/operawiki/forums/topic.dml?id=1132992> and <http://my.opera.com/operawiki/forums/topic.dml?id=1132442>. That will show you where certain files (including mail files) and what to back up and what you can restore etc.

So, I've first deleted the autosave.win. Nothing happened. Deleted operaprefs.ini, still nothing. Did standalone insttalation - got the problem again when I made a whole new account. Reinstalled Opera and replaced mail folder with mine, still got the problem. I even tried this on a new install:

If all else fails, you may have to do this to fix it. But, you need to try the other things first.

and still had it.

When you did all those things, did you refrain from customizing Opera or did you change some default settings? (Like the layout, sorting, etc.).

Opera doesn't have folders. It has views. Which views can you reproduce this with? "All Messages/Unread", "All Messages/Received", the "Inbox" view under a you@example.com POP access point, a label view under the "Labels" access point.

Do you close the message list tab before you close Opera or do you leave it open when you close Opera?

Does it work any differently if you change "wrench -> group by date" to "do not group"?

Do you get to mail via the mail panel or "Menu -> mail -> read mail"?

Do you use the account selector at all? That causes the last selected message to be forgotten.

If it doesn't remember the last selected message, which message is selected then? Is it random?

Only setting I changed is from "List and Message on right" to "List and Message Below".

The problem exists in each of the views: All messages/Unread, All messages/Received, All messages/ Sent, Sent and Inbox for the POP account, Labes, Feeds etc.

Do you close the message list tab before you close Opera or do you leave it open when you close Opera?

I tried both closing message list tab before closing Opera and closing Opera with open tab. No change.

If I select a message/feed and open it for reading and I change an option for the grouping ("group by date" to "do not group" or vice versa) while it is selected, it becomes the remembered message/feed in that view. When I select others and don't change from "group by date" to "do not group" (or another of the options there) it doesn't become remebered. Otherwise the last one selected is the one selected before I updated from 11.52 to 11.60.

I don't use the account selector.

I'm able to reproduce the problem with one of my feed views. After restarting Opera, the last message in the list is always selected. I tried the group/do not group to see if it'd help it stick, but it didn't, but no biggie. That should be good enough. Thanks.

I'm sorry I really don't understand what do you mean bigsmile
Is this a bug? Can it be fixed?

To me nothing changed here.

Opera does remember last selected message for mail, nntp forums and rss newsfeeds.

But if you do close/unclose cycle (Ctrl+W then Ctrl+Shift+T by default), then while message is selected, it's content is not previewed until re-selected manually.

11.52 win 7 -> upgraded to 11.60 -> reverted mail to top-bottom layout intead of MS-Office like left-right layout

It' seems to be a bug. If a dev can reproduce it, then he should be able to fix it, at some point.
