What mail view mode do you have set? Do you have "list and message on right", "list and message below" or "list only"?

With the first two, if you select an item in the list, its message will open in the message pane. After 1 second of being opened, the message will be automatically marked as read. This works fine for me in 11.60. What version are you using?

I don't know what you mean by that. Do you mean left-clicking the "read/unread" button on the mail toolbar?

Note though that you should keep the "mark as read" setting to "manually". Opera has 3 states intead of 2:

blue text = unseen (you haven't looked at it yet)

bold black text = send (you've looked at the message, as in, you opened it)

black text = read (you've explicitly told Opera that you've actually read the message in its entirety by marking it as read. There's no way Opera can know you read the message, which is why you need to tell it.

So, when the text isn't blue, that means you've already opened the message. Save the read state for when you've actually read the message.

i use the "list and message below" view.

im in my "unread" mail filter : it switches from blue to bold black when i klick on a mail.
in the old M2 after klicking to the next mail, it disappeadred from the "unread" filter. now i have to klick the "k" button to get it out.

Sounds like there was a bug in that old version. I just tested in 11.52 and it works the same as 11.60. In fact, in 11.52, you can't even adjust the "mark as read" option if you're in "Unread". When you click the next message in the list, the one you were on still remains in "Unread".

What you describe sounds like the "mark and goto next unread" option that you get by pressing 'g'. That still works in 11.60. You don't need to change "mark as read" from "manually" for that to work either.

Sorry, I don't think I've ever seen the behavior you describe by clicking on the message/item in the list. Maybe someone else knows.
