Mac Opera HTML 5 issues

Since the latest Update with Opera, HTML 5 has been having difficulty loading and running on my computer.
Gmail refuses to load, ending in my opening the old HTML version, and I had to revert to Firefox to do anything involving Youtube and numerous sites involving what I thought was Flash. My fiancee recently informed me that he believes it's the HTML update that's not playing nice with my Computer.

I don't like having to use Firefox, when everything I've been doing, that involves my up coming wedding, is sitting in Opera and won't load.

Is there something I did or need to do? I use a Macbook. OS X 10.5.8. I understand I can't upgrade my Flash any further without upgrading my Macbook to Snow Leopard/Lion. But I'm trying to avoid spending the 70$ on that. Does anyone else have this problem so far? I know the update for Opera just came out, but I'm sure someone has said something, or even found a fix. I know many more people are better at tech stuff than I.
