Problems with Opera 11.60 on Windows Vista Business
1. I guess I got used to the convenience when updating other programs that automatically migrate settings. But Opera update obliterated my bookmarks, history, speed dial, skin, toolbar arrangements, and general appearance. That pi**ed me off for a start. Maybe I missed a checkbox.2. When I click on a link in an e-mail, Opera opens but it sits on speed dial with an empty address bar. I have to copy the link and paste it into the address bar. It behaves the same way for desktop shortcuts and links in MS Word documents - Opera opens but doesn't open to the page. I even saved a page to the desktop as a .MHT and tried to open it - Opera opened only to speed dial.
I'm answering my own question.
The trick seems to be to remove the existing Opera version before installing the latest. I had installed version 11.60 but found that version 11.52 was still listed in Add/Remove programs while version 11.60 didn't appear there at all. I uninstalled the listed version, restarted and tried again for version 11.60. This time it worked.
Well this seems to have solved my own particular set of problems. I didn't have any of the other difficulties listed in this forum (including speed issues) - not yet anyway. Nevertheless, removing the prior version may help solve the other problems mentioned. Backup personalization first.
