Viewing reply (sent) message in thread creates a "draft".

I just "upgraded" to 11.60 on my XP PRO SP3 machine. When I open a message which I originated in a thread a draft is created which then shows up in the same thread. This strikes me as abnormal and undesirable. Is there a fix for this?

Welcome to the My Opera community!

Is the message in question a message that you sent and did you double-left-click it to open it? If so, it's opening in edit mode which is intentional and will create a draft. If you use a mail layout of "list and message on right" or "list and message below" and just single-left-click the message, it'll be opened in read mode.

If you want to hide your sent messages, uncheck "show sent" for each view.

If this is happening for a message that someone else (or a list) sent to you, then that's weird.

Yes, it is a message that I sent. Is there a way to view a message without changing the mail layout? Since the list takes up the whole screen already, I fail to see how showing the message as well is a viable option. I will play with it some more. You guys have a long way to go to make Opera settings user-friendly; I ALWAYS have a hard time finding the setting I want (if it even exists).

<http://my.opera.com/operawiki/forums/topic.dml?id=1196552> should help with that.

Yes, but not with double-left-click.

If you goto "ctrl + F12 -> advanced -> shortcuts -> Opera Standard -> edit" and edit the "Enter" shortcut under "Mail Window", you can remove "Edit draft | " from its command. Then, you can press enter on the item in the message list to open it in a new tab in read mode instead of edit mode.

You could create your own customized menu to add the "open in message view" command to the right-click menu too. You might be able to create a gesture for it too. You just can't change what double-left-click does, unfortunately. If you want to do the menu way, let me know.

Fwiw, I've complained about this a lot. The default should be to open it in read mode. There's right-click -> edit if one actually wants to edit it. But, no one else agrees, besides you.
