IRC feature requests

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to put each request in a separate thread or not, but I'd rather not because it would require starting too many new threads, so let's keep it all here.

Missing IRC features:

1: It should be possible to set IRC tabs to flash subtly when new messages appear (not connects and disconnects) and also possible to disable the flashing for those who don't want this feature.

2: IRC drops often. It needs an auto-reconnect feature with a configurable timer. For instance I'd like to set mine to reconnect after 3 seconds.

3: Need a secondary delay for auto-reconnect after re-connecting several times in quick succession due to a bad connection. For instance, if you dc and reconnect twice inside of 12 seconds, then allow the user to increase the delay of the 3rd or 4th reconnect (optional) to a longer time, such as 10 seconds to reconnect instead of 3 seconds.

4: Need an auto-reconnect feature after getting kicked from a channel. Again, needs a timer, separate from the drop-reconnect timer, which I may, for instance, choose to set to 10 seconds.

5: The IRC client XChat has a feature that shows users in different colors, picking a random color for each user, making it much easier to follow a conversation properly. Would be nice to have this in Opera too.

6: We have minutes and hours in time stamps. Would be nice to opt-in for showing seconds as well.

7: Add a customizable auto-correct for your own words (allows you to auto-correct typos such as turning 'adn' into 'and')

8: Add word filter, allowing the end user to modify certain words sent by other users.

9: Allow changing the default background color of IRC tabs (globally) as pure-white is sometimes hard on the eyes.

10: Don't know if this is possible, but it would be nice to have a function to enable stealth mode, so that other users aren't alerted when you enter or exit a channel. This would help a lot if you dc/reconnect often.

11: IRC sometimes drops and when reconnecting, won't accept your nick even though you've set the password to enter automatically after connecting to the server. Opera's IRC should pick up that the nick failed to authenticate and use the GHOST command to force a retake. Dropping like this is especially problematic when you're in a channel that *requires* you to have a registered nick, because every time you drop, you're forced to manually reconnect.

It's actually best to do that. One topic per thread. The number of threads is no concern.

But, in this case since they're all very related, it's not too big of a deal. If they were multiple, unrelated wishes, that'd be annoying.

Features requests, even for mail, go in the wish-list forum. If you search there, you'll see that there are already many IRC wish-list threads likes yours.

I can understand having separate threads for non-related issues if those issues are discussions, but in a case like this, where each point is clearly a request rather than a discussion, it makes more sense to keep multiple requests in a single thread, even if they are completely unrelated. I'm looking at this from a devs point of view; a developer would prefer reading a short list of requests from a single thread than opening multiple threads and manually searching for feature requests.

I did search for IRC, and most of the threads were posted here. I didn't see any existing requests for what I have requested in this thread.

If they're all unrelated, you risk your thread being locked if you do that. It's all about separation of concerns. Like I said though, it's okayish if they're all related. But, it's still even better with one topic per thread.

But, these are forums, if you post something, it will be discussed. If you have a bunch of different topics in the thread the replies will be chaotic, which no one, including devs will like.

That's good. Note though that the 5th thread down in the wish-list forum has a bunch of IRC wishes in the comments in addition to the initial post. It's kind of the ongoing thread of IRC wishes that everyone is using. So, if you're going to post a bunch altogether, might as well add them to the rest. Or, at least post a link to your thread (once it's moved to the wish-list forum) in that thread.

+1 it's hard to perceive new messages from irc, mainly using the current standard skin.

MUST! Lately the disconnect happens a lot

I support more customization for opera chat

+1 nice

is thi for OP, yep?
