11.60 not fetching email of multiple accounts

Hey,

my Opera just got auto updated to 11.60 and it won't fetch emails from multiple accounts anymore. I have to open the drop down and select every account separately for it to fetch emails.

Is this a known bug? Is there a fix?

Thanks!

Do you have any IRC accounts, or newsgroup accounts with "included this account when checking manually" unchecked?

Where would I find the "included this account when checking manually" option?

I have feeds but no IRC accounts set up.

"Menu -> mail and chat accounts -> the account - > edit -> incoming tab".

First, sorry for my English;
Second, solved; in my case it was a problem with the accounts.ini file (CLOSE OPERA BEFORE EDITING THIS FILE AND DO A BACKUP OF EVERYTHING)

When you create or edit an account, you have to write the Account Name and you _can_ write the Account Category (first tab in the Account's Properties window); suppose i write down "IN USE" category.
When you read mail, if you right click Received in the Messages Pane, you can choose "Show messages from ..." : email accounts, news accounts, my_email_address_1@pippo.it, my_email_address_2@operamail.com, IN USE, other existing category, ...
You may select "In Use", but if you selected another Category before, this new selection is not stored in accounts.ini.
So (remember, close opera and backup) open accounts.ini and correct the
Active Account Category=

with the existing category
Active Account Category=in use

for this example

Cheers. G

Same problem here: "Check all" does not include all mail accounts it should include anymore. In my case, it will check two of four accounts that have "Include this account when checking manually" selected in the account settings.

One should file a bug report! So far I can not explain this bug any better.

I doubt that the suggestion made by GianluigiA will fix the problem. I do not actively use categories, and the accounts.ini file contains only one line with "Active Account Category" at the beginning, as you can see below. The accounts sections all do not contain an "Active Account Category".

Opera Preferences version 2.1
; Do not edit this file while Opera is running
; This file is stored in UTF-8 encoding

[Accounts]
Account1=1
Account2=2
Account3=3
Account4=4
Account5=5
Active Account Category
Default News Account=15
Default Chat Account=43
Account6=7

Bug has already been filed and devs have been informed.

ok, so what does that mean? When could a fix be available? Only with the next update? It's quite annoying the way it is now. I have 10 accounts in opera and I have to open the drop down and select all 10 individually every time.

Thanks!

Once it's fixed and tested and it's deemed ready for public consumption. In other words, when it's ready. If lucky, 11.61 (or maybe 11.61 snapshots first). If not, probably 12.x snapshots first and then 12 final.

Wow great. The thing updates itself without asking me and then I have to wait months for a fix because it wasn't properly tested before the release?

There's an option to control that under "Ctrl + F12 -> advanced -> security". You should double-check it's set to how you want after each upgrade.

Unknown. Like I said, when it's ready.

User found it in this build in September.

None of us in that thread filed a bug on it. No one else (that I know of) ran into the problem from then till now in any 12.x or 11.60 snapshots/betas etc. (It takes a certain config to trigger the bug). So, it's not Opera's fault and it was only found out once 11.60 was released where millions of people were trying it. I assure you 11.60 was well tested. But, no release is bug free.

I've seen users with check/send buttons over the years with no fixes, so I personally figured that this was another case that was unlikely to get fixed. But, this was an extra bug that was introduced it seems. If it makes you feel better to blame someone, blame me for not reporting it, not Opera.

No need :-) Thanks for the detailed explanation.

I'll just wait then.

Nope, one well done bug report is enough. Reporting a already reported bug several times will only make people waist time marking them as duplicated.

Great! Quick question regarding this version: What does "this is not an Opera Next build" mean exactly?
"It will install over the latest stable version by default!" Is this the same as selecting "Update/Upgrade" during the regular opera setup routine?

"Opera Next" builds are non-stable, experimental builds that represent things to come (or things that might come). By default, when you run the "Opera Next" installer, the install path (under "options") will be set to an "Opera Next" path in the program files folder instead of the "Opera" path. That way, the installer won't be set to the path of your current stable install by default and therefore, you won't accidentally upgrade your stable build of Opera with the unstable Opera Next build and instead you'll just install this Opera Next build next to your normal Opera. If you change the install path yourself though, you're on your own.

Now, when they tell you it's not an Opera next build, the above doesn't happen and the default path in the installer will be the path of your current stable install. this means that if you don't go to options and change the install path, the installer will just upgrade your current stable install.

Betas and release candidates (the latter at least) will often upgrade your existing stable install so Opera gets more testing coverage. So, always be mindful about what you're installing. And, it's best to always click "options" in the installer and check to make sure that it's doing what you want it to do.

Also, no matter what build (stable or not) you install or upgrade to, always backup your mail folder first, just in case something gets hosed.

I just updated to 11.61. It's still not checking all accounts sad

I changed them all to be included when checking manually too, but it still doesn't work.

I've also noticed other issues since upgrading to 11.6 - worthy of separate threads but I don't have the time to devote to it right now, so I'll just mention them here - basically problems with Opera not "always" applying the correct signature when I have multiple accounts, and not "always" remembering to compose in HTML mode. Also the problems with new messages appearing at the bottom of the list. I turned grouping off, and I turned threading off because I was receiving messages which I couldn't see, and realised they'd gone into an unexpanded thread.

Aside from a few problems with pasting tables into mail messages, and strange spaces appearing when I started typing in a message after pasting something else in there, I quite liked the mail client as it was prior to 11.60.

While I applaude Opera for actually taking time to look at M2 (if it's still called that) after so many years of neglect it's a pity that basic things like checking all mail accounts at once isn't possible right now. Hopefully soon.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem possible to downgrade to 11.52 - I tried it but had to go back to 11.6 because it said the new mail files wouldn't work with 11.52.

But, did you try the "standalone installation" option in the installer to install to a folder on your desktop and setup all your accounts (in the same exact order as in your normal Opera, including IRC accounts etc.) in it (do not import anything and do not uncheck "leave messages on server")?

If you haven't, try that and see if you can still reproduce. If you can, the problem is problem something with accounts.ini and we'd need to see it. Or, it could just be another issue.

Ahh, no I didn't. I'll try that on my work PC tomorrow - I've still got 11.60 on that one. On a positive note 11.61 seems to be behaving itself in other respects smile
