Opera not work with Amazon

Cannot use Opera with my seller account inside Amazon UK

Have had to load Firefox just for use with Amazon UK

Has anyone had the same problem?

Try masking as firefox that usually fixes problems with Amazon due to their browser sniffing.
Right click on the page, select Edit site preferences > Network > Browser Identification.
Opera 12.16 build 1860 Windows Vista Premium SP2

You don't have to do it every time, once you have changed it in site preferences it will remain on that setting unless you change it again.

Because of Amazons browser sniffing.

Opera easily is better than FF on my opinion and recent comments around the web talk of the lack of security for FF is a good reason to think twice, but on topic I find too that Mask as Firefox resolves problems with Amazon so it may be some extension or user js perhaps that somehow is causing your issues?

Because FF is so widely used it is a larger target making it more likely to have more holes, Chrome, IE9, FF, that is currently the order of secure browsers in some testing and articles. As for Amazon, I do not have a seller account therefore I cannot test that aspect but to utilize Amazon with Opera properly I must use "Mask as Firefox" or things are slightly skewed and unreadable. Have you tried to disable any extensions or user javascripts, custom CSS you may have implemented, even tried a new profile? Couple of things in case you haven't tried before you jump ship. As seen by this Google search result Chrome is a more secure option, also at the PWN 2 OWN it also did well, I use a Chromium based alternative called SRWare Iron though as it is even nicer than Chrome in some aspects...in case you want to know the differences. http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron_chrome_vs_iron.php

Amazon is in league with Microsoft and they are trying to knock off Opera.

Well it would seem not many sites make a point of taking Opera into consideration, hopefully with the new Opera probably not too far off we will be better compatibility with sites we currently find issue with, at least I am hopeful of that!

It would seem that is a goal they have set, I just hope it works as well once implemented as it does in theory.

Didn't Opera LLC take M$ to the cleaners in a settlement a few years back for the same thing? left

Cheers!

I think I can confirm that Opera may not work right when accessing an Amazon seller account. (Note: I'm in the U.S.) I sold an item on Amazon.com earlier this year and recall an issue with my seller account when using Opera. For normal viewing of Amazon.com, Opera seems to work fine but signing on to my seller account was where some issue arose. My memory is not clear at the moment on the nature of the problem I experienced. Anyway, I just decided to use IE when signing on to Amazon and access my seller account.

Not sure where you are getting this nonsense from. Opera has always been focusing on compatibility. There's nothing new there.

Implemented what? What are you talking about? If you are referring to html5 parsing that's not "a goal they have set" but an engine that uses the html5 rules to interpret html. The result might be better compatibility, but most compatibility problems are caused by browser sniffing anyway.

Also, regressions can cause loss of compatibility on some sites.

Oh!

There was a newspaper article in Vancouver that M$ had lost a tens-of-million dollar case to a browser company. M$ sites were purposely blocking said browser. As part of the settlement, the browser company was not to be named. My buddy that works for Apple said it wasn't them, the open sourcers don't have that kind of money for that level of lawyers, so I naturally assumed it was Opera confused

Cheers!

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_litigation. Opera initiated a lawsuit against Microsoft which accused Microsoft of intentionally making its MSN service incompatible with the Opera browser on several occasions.

Ok, so obviously I need to overly state an opinion or make clearer my statements for some of us here??? I was saying in a very short way what you have just said, I have used Opera for a long time and I know they have "always been focusing on compatibility" and with each new version part of their "goal" is to continue that effort, occasionally things do not work as well as hoped but with so much content on the web that is to be expected hence the latter portion of my comment. When the next version of Opera makes it out to us I am hopeful their efforts to add more features and implement improved support for web standards (as is typical of Opera) I am hopeful we see some vast improvements. I notice a lot of sites that look different and work different in Opera and some I can work around with the choice to Mask and such, one I disable js before each visit and re-enable afterwards but I am willing to make these little compromises for a browser I prefer over any other. Forgive my wording but I think the word goal is fine as the new features, functions, and the new engine are all just that, NEW, therefore the goal is to bring about change to Opera for the good, to call it nonsense is a bit much just because I made a quick statement when time was limited that somehow didn't suit the way you felt it should read. We are all here because we like the browser and I look forward to all the goals set by the developers to bring us new and improved use of Opera.

The other issue of course is Printing

Some sites just wont print anything - others if you look in print preview it is all messed up

Assume this is the same thing? Anyway of improving this also?

I'm puzzled re: the printing issue because I have not experienced it. Perhaps the make and model of printer and the printer software installed is a factor here. I'm using a Brother MFC-790CW All-in-One printer with their Control Center software installed.

Dont think its the printer this is the third printer I have had that does the same - Using an Epson at the moment

Even the print pre-view is all over the place or the content just does no show up at all

Annoying when you have to take a screen print and then put it in word to get some figures off the screen!

Will try the same screen in Firefox and see if that prints ..... that should be interesting?
