11.60 and 12.0 SKYDRIVE doesn't work

There's a huge problem with Opera browser, using Opera you cannot upload files on skydrive.live.com. There should be a little progress bar in the pop out window but on Opera it doesn't exist... I'm getting a message that says it's not possible to upload folder instead, but I'm not trying to upload one. So Opera makes skydrive think that I'm trying to upload a folder instead of a single file. So, why is that happening?

Are there any new developments on this front?

Can someone using alpha channel try and report back here? Has the new version improved it's HTML5 capabilities?

Skydrive is very important to me, and having to open another browser for it is a huge hindrance.

There is a window.wLive.Core.Html5FileUpload constructor in Bucket4.js. The isFolder function appears when a new instance is created:
new window.wLive.Core.Html5FileUpload(fileMetadata, isDragAndDropSupported).isFolder(callback(isFolder))

objectLiteral fileMetadata:
{"name":"file.ext","extension":".ext","iconType":"Ext","size":100,"downlevel":false,"canResizeOnClient":false,"upType":"h5","isLocked":false}

boolean isDragAndDropSupported:
false

The isFolder function attempts and fails to use a FileReader and its readAsArrayBuffer method. When the function fails, isFolder is passed as true, so you will see the error: "Sorry, SkyDrive can't upload folders. Please upload the files that are contained in the folder instead."

In Opera 11.61, for some files, FileReader reports NOT_READABLE_ERR (see errors). For some reason, Opera may not be able to access the file.

Opera must be using at least Presto/2.10.238, which allows sending Blob objects in an XMLHttpRequest:
http://www.opera.com/docs/specs/presto2.10/#m210-244

Furthermore, readAsArrayBuffer method is included but not yet functional, which would break SkyDrive's feature detection for this method.
http://www.opera.com/docs/specs/presto2.10/file/#fileread

Currently, the File API implementation is incomplete.

With CORE-41784 (XMLHttpRequest Level 2 upload and progress events), we completed our support for progress events in XMLHttpRequest, for upload, download, and timeout update. This will improve the upload experience on Google services (no more Flash uploaders on YouTube and Gmail), and more sites are to follow.

Support for XHR 2 has improved in this new Opera 12 build.
HTML5 uploading should, at least, work now.

Yes, I often wonder why people don't use Opera. Maybe they need to use hot-linking, but just for accessing files from anywhere, Opera's service is OK. The upload limit for a single file is 63 Mbytes. I don't know how well it compares to SkyDrive — uploading large files does take a few minutes — so my guess is that's is not as good.

Use 7-Zip rather than Win RAR, for documents, etc.

I tried Virgin Media's VStuff, but soon gave up. I use Opera storage for cloud storage only occasionally.

Then I guess you're stuck with using IE9.

The same old excuses — don't you see how MS try to tie you into using their software by not caring if their sites work with other browsers?

If sites don't work with your chosen browser, use another site — not another browser. If opera:files doesn't suit your needs then use another site, but choose one that works with Opera.

No matter how hard Opera tries, they cannot fix every broken site, and even when they do it can easily break again when the site is updated. Web masters should adhere to standards, then anyone can use whichever browser they wish.

No. There is no problem with SkyDrive. I can access and use it with Chrome, IE9, Firefox and SeaMonkey. The problem, my friend, is Opera. And whether or not MS is trying to tie us into using their software (which is obviously NOT the case) is a moot point. Opera needs to fix the issue.. period.

That depends. If it is due to a bug in Opera then, yes. It might be this large cookie issue, which is fixed in Opera 12.

However, it is not always a problem that Opera can or should fix. Read the sticky thread before jumping to conclusions. Opera does make considerable efforts to fix broken sites.

It works with every browser . Unfortunately , Opera has pretty small market share and it has to adapt to support different sites to be relevant . If something works in 90% of the market - It is Opera's problem .
Sometimes " the way it works in other browsers" - is The Standard that Opera should comply to.

Opera should conform to web standards. Educate yourself about the issues by reading the sticky thread. If other browsers are insecure, should Opera comply so that it is also insecure?

Its not a simple black and white issue. Sometimes Opera can and should fix site issues, and they should always try to fix bugs, but sometimes it is not Opera's problem, but a site problem.

Security - is not a web standard , it has nothing to do with it .

Problems with incorrect web page is not Opera's fault , but it is Opera's problem . If facebook would not be displayed properly in Opera , and only
Opera , it would lose many users . Some sites are more important to many than the browser.

You are just displaying your ignorance. When browsers or sites don't follow standards they put the user at risk.

You are the one who is ignorant . Stop talking stupid things. non properly displayed page has nothing to do with security .

How did everything you write is related to skydrive problem ? It works with all other browsers . Only Opera has problems - this is opera's problem. THis is standard compliant page , because all its features are supported by 90% of the market , witch makes it de facto standard page.

If that was true then SkyDrive wouldn't work with Firefox and Chrome either but it does.

Useless advice.

No matter how hard Opera tries, they cannot fix every broken site, and even when they do it can easily break again when the site is updated. Web masters should adhere to standards, then anyone can use whichever browser they wish.

But that fact of the matter is that web masters don't - or in the case of the browser vendors they implement HTML 5 at different paces, so e.g., some Google Docs features are usable in Chrome but not IE or Firefox.

End-users don't care about standards. They just care that in browser X they cannot access the site they want to while in browser Y they can. It's not Opera's fault and their small market share means they do face a conundrum. Th threshold seems to be about 10-15 %. E.g., a while back Microsoft supported IE, Safari and Firefox only with things like Silverlight. Then as Chrome market share crept up they started supporting Chrome. Though for some reason - only on Windows, not on Mac. This seems to be a common pattern. E.g., their upcoming Dynamics CRM Anywhere update will support Firefox on Windows and Mac but Chrome only on Windows. It may well be a market share issue again. I suspect Chrome on Mac might not be close in usage to Firefox.

Version 12.00 alpha Build 1380
Platform x64 System Windows 7

still has the upload folders problem

luckily MS have offered a little app for using skydrive which can be had from here https://apps.live.com/skydrive

still not ideal but needs must and all that it works quite well too

basically it downloads your skydrive folders to your PC and keeps the folders in sync so anything you put in the folder on your PC gets automatically synced with the online skydrive folder

25. April 2012, 11:07:30

Reposting my post on a similar thread:

I workaround I do with this is to use a software client like, SDExplorer to upload to Skydrive, instead. Much easier to use (uses a Windows Explorer-like interface - copy, cut and paste) than using the browser interface.

If anyone has info straight from the horse's mouth (Microsoft or Opera representatives) on how to fix the issue here and/or which side should fix it, please post it here.

I think Opera loses more if this issue is not fixed (compared to Microsoft). Opera users will start flocking to other browsers or use other methods just to access Skydrive. On Microsoft's side, Opera users are just a minority of browser users - and IMO, they may think that it's not worth it to take the time to fix this. There was also previously another issue where Opera @ tagging with Facebook didn't work. Facebook did not fix that issue - Opera did.

Bouncy bounce because of a problem I've found with

Version 12.00
Build 1467
Platform Win32
System Windows 2000

Went to Skydrive and all my files had the titles hidden. Sure, I can click the checkbox and have the folder on the right show the name (one file at a time) but Firefox shows all the file names as usual. Just sayin' devil

Please fix this, and maybe add a progress feature on the upload. whistle bigsmile wink

Not for me I am still getting error messages when it tries to load skydrive regardless of whether I open it in the same tab or try to open it in a new tab

I haven't been able to my skydrive for a long time now via Opera Next 12 x64 or any other version they've released

and taking a look at the error console is rediculas it not just 1 or 2 errors it's 50 or more leading to either opera saying that skydrive can not load because it failed to comunicate in an secure manner that opera understands (error 552)

If Skydrive doesn't work for you, check if thebrowser.js documentation page says browser.js is active and dated August 13 . If you don't have the August 13 file, choose "Help / Check for updates" and re-load.Sitepatching - Skydrive upload improvement, ebay shipping labels printing

PATCH-782, skydrive.live.com - improve upload of files. The issue this works around has already been fixed in Core for 12.50. Let us know how this works out.

Look at https://secure.wlxrs.com/8dHhvhufevqUnGBepwWWeA/Bucket1.js containing some of the style rules.

Look at the `registerStyle` function:
function j(c) {
    if (c) {
        var d = document.head || document.body;
        if (d) {
            var b = ce("style");
            b.type = "text/css";
            if (b.styleSheet) b.styleSheet.cssText = c;
            else b.appendChild(document.createTextNode(c));
            d.appendChild(b)
        } else a += c
    }
}

For the header styles, look at the `$LivePipe.appendThemeToHead` function:
function (e) {
    var a = document.createElement("style");
    a.type = "text/css";
    a.setAttribute("id", "themecss");
    var b, d = new RegExp("<style.*?>(.*?)</style>", "gim");
    if (b = d.exec(e.Content)) {
        var c = document.createTextNode(b[1]);
        if (a.styleSheet) a.styleSheet.cssText = c.nodeValue;
        else a.appendChild(c);
        _dh.appendChild(a)
    }

I have created a user JS that prevents the usage of the `styleSheet` property.

Fix SkyDrive:
https://gist.github.com/3367151/

Installing user JS:
  1. Create a folder for storing user JS files.
  2. Go to the user JS on GitHub > Right click on "raw" > Save Linked Content As... > Save the JS file to your user JS folder.
  3. Opera > Settings > Preferences... > Advanced > Content > JavaScript Options... > Under "User JavaScript folder", select "Choose..." > Select the folder > OK > OK > OK.
For the user JS to take effect, you need to enable: opera:config#UserPrefs|UserJavaScriptonHTTPS (select, copy, and paste the link if it doesn't work).

You will get a security warning message every session.
If you don't want this security warning message, you can patch the DLL (option 1):
http://my.opera.com/XAntares/blog/xanocta/
https://bitbucket.org/xaxa/nocta/src/

The patch is "xa-nocta-plugin-00-SilentHTTPSUserJS.pl".

Option 2 is bundling this user JS into an extension, so you won't need to enable the HTTPS user JS setting; thus, you will not see the security warning message.

thanks for trying XP1 but after doing what you suggested above I now get a user js script warning on hotmail but nothing on skydrive and it still goes to this error after a minute of trying to load the page

Secure connection: fatal error (552)

https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=**********************

Opera was not able to connect to the server, because the server does not communicate via any secure protocol known to Opera.

Version 12.01 Build 1532
Platform x64
System Windows 7 x64

I'll try it in the Opera next version I have aswell and let you know how that goes

Have you had this error before the user JS?

YES ever since they've been putting out new versions like their arse was on fire... I've had 1 version work once and then never again when I tried going back right now as it stands I have to use another browser to access skydrive which isn't very productive sad

Have you tried testing with a new Opera profile?

Go to Start > Run (or Windows key + R) > Enter:
"%PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\Opera\opera.exe" -pd "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\Test profile"
or
"%PROGRAMFILES%\Opera\opera.exe" -pd "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\Test profile"
This will create a new folder, "Test profile", onto your desktop. First thing to do is try logging into SkyDrive.

When you are done testing, you can delete the folder on your desktop.
